General Discussion / Australia's First Supercross
« on: April 02, 2018, 11:45:59 AM »
Australia's first Supercross. I think it had to be late 78 at Parramatta Speedway (The Speedway by the Freeway!) I was racing my Suzuki RM400C. It rained and was as slippery as ice. What's your memory?

Tips for using the Forum / Re: photo hosting sites, what do you use?
« on: April 02, 2018, 08:38:14 AM »
Since the conversion of Photobucket to a paid site displaying images has been a sore point in this forum. Dennis Vinduro has found that works well which we at OzVMX HQ have begun to test ride, so give it a try. We'd love to see your pics

Over the coming weeks we'll be doing some maintenance to the forum. No drastic changes, just a tidy up and we'll be upgrading to the latest version of the software. We'll try to minimise the down time for you.

General Discussion / Broadford Bike Bonanza 2018
« on: April 02, 2018, 07:07:41 AM »
Just did the run down to Broadford for my first bonanza. You Victorians are totally spoiled with that complex and yet again NSW is behind the times and our local government has NFI! Was great to ride around the Broadford MX Track again although last time I rode it in 82 it went anti-clockwise but it still felt familiar and brought back great memories. I was told attendance numbers were approx 5000. Pretty impressive numbers. Attended Rosco's Mini Reunion Dinner and mini Show n Shine which was a blast with a lot of great people there. Crumpy came and put on a show at the Short Circuit track and even though he was obviously riding at 70%, his 70% was still a thrill to watch. Those old short circuit guys are fun to watch and they are as tough as nails. Watched the road riding for a while on what I thought was a beautifully undulating road circuit with great vantage points. All in all a good spoil of a weekend for me and I highly recommend it.

Competition / Heaven VMX goes Pre-95
« on: March 19, 2018, 07:39:33 AM »
Now that Pre-95 is an official class in the MoMs, for 2018 Heaven VMX has adopted the class. Anyone out there with a Pre-95 bike who is keen for some good old fashioned dirt bike racing the club's first event is on over the weekend of April 7&8 on a fast and flowing easy Grass Track at Caloola about 15 minutes drive from Bathurst. The entryform will go live on the club site this week.

Got my ticket, really looking forward to my first visit to BBB and to this event

General Discussion / Re: Chinese are coming along
« on: March 19, 2018, 07:33:33 AM »
The Indians & Chinese can build good quality stuff ,
but only it seems if they are partnered with a decent company from outside.
Iphones are made in china, BMW & VW etc. have factories in china, all these products are made well

but when they do there own stuff they cant resist copying something else , then cutting corners and using the cheapest/nastiest materials.
this is the difference between the early Japanese bikes and these Chinese bikes.
early Japanese bikes may have been a copy of something else but they soon developed there own designs , and kept improving the quality.
so far the Chinese don't seem capable of doing this, they just want to compete on price alone

This is true. The main difference between the Japanese and the Chinese at a similar period in their manufacturing history is cultural. Post WW2 the Japanese adopted the Deming Method to rebuild their manufacturing economy which focused on quality and reduced costs through efficiency where as the Chinese are still very influenced by a deep seated belief that cutting corners to minimise costs is good business, despite the effect on quality or the fact the product has drifted away from the agreed design brief. If there is not a quality focused organisation in charge of the cheap labour to curb this belief and keep the quality standards up the Chinese default to this way of doing business.

General Discussion / Re: What ever happened to event promotions?
« on: March 19, 2018, 07:20:21 AM »
i think with using facebook they believe they have informed the majority and that it will filter down the line
This is an interesting point. This year's Expo due to other commitments I was struggling to keep up with the prep work. I had every intention of advertising here but never got to it on my list. I guess I did subconsciously think the word would get around.
