I had a 1980 CR250 with a Mugen motor in 81 - went to an RM250Z in 82 and could not believe how quick it was.  I didn't think the full floater was as good as everyone reckoned but boy what a bike.

Yup the '82 RM 250. I don't know how well they went but they're one of the toughest lookin' bikes out.  :P

The 82 250 & 465 were "GEMS" I had both they were real good bikes best rear suspension at the time,

Yeah i remember the rear suspension being so good on my '81 125 & 250, by far the best i'd ever ridden.

I have good memories of my 125A - was a sweet little bike. And I admit to a soft spot for the RM250T- a good all-rounder and reliable.
I am getting some time up on my 250B and really like it. The motor is a beauty.
The RH 250, although a limited release, would have been a revelation back in 1974. I have been fortunate to ride one a bit in the last couple of years and it always leaves me feeling vindicated about my Suzuki fetish.

Even though I've never ridden one, the RM250Z/D from '82 and '83 get my vote as the nicest looking of all the 'pre'90 RM's ;)

true - I heard the hot mod for the 83 model RM250D was to put the head off an 82 Z back on it!!

mmm..I thought they lost the plot a little with the squarish styling of the '84 250E and later but eh, doesn't detract from performance just not as nice to look at ;)

Have owned and or ridden a few mightly Suzukis:

RM250E 84
RM250Z 82
RM465Z 82
RM125D 83

Without doubt the RM250Z was the best. The only two holeshots of my miserable racing expertise were on that beast and my first ever MX trophy (at the age of 37).

Was the  250 'Z' engine much better than the air cooled 'X'?

I raced a 250 'X' for a couple of races and really liked it but I heard the 'Z' was faster.

Yes Tony the Z was heaps faster than the X. The X seemed mellow in comparison.

I have had a few Suzuki's in the past and recon they are one of the better manufactures. My RM125N & PE175 were great bikes but the best was my RM250F. All of these bikes were reliable/ dependable, better handling bikes in their day. Bought my wife a DRZ250 because of my previous bikes & the DRZ’s reputation.  :) my 2 cents
