Thanks for the auction posting cyclegod but I already have a NOS set of cannisters with the rubber protectors on them. But I would say a few people will want them as the rubbers always seem to get lost or misplaced.

Boney I didnt paint the tank, as their is a local guy here who is into VMX and he is a car painter so I dropped it off to him after cleaning, sanding, preping it so he just had to spray a coat of white. Then I got the decals made up by another local VMXer who is in the sign business and then back to the spray painters for the red and clear coats. The next job for me is to strip the frame down and take it to the powdercoaters. While they are doing their thing I will order a seat foam from MXM in Oz and get to work shaping, moulding that to the correct shape and then I will have to get a seat cover made. If I had the money I would love to replace all the bolts/axles etc with titanium, but dreams are free, so I will just have to wait until I win lotto. Then its the zincing. I havnt got the wheels for the bike yet, so I'm not sure if I will have to de-lace them and get them re-zinc, but knowing how things work I most probably will have to do that(I will be getting all the bits and pieces re-zinc . One of the jobs I will be doing soon is the lower fork legs. I want to bead blast, and machine them down to give them some shape and a different look to the norm. I was thinking about oval aluminium sidecovers but I think (for dust purposes) the original ones would be better.

I ordered a seat foam from Bultaco Parts over in Aus last week and it arrived yesterday so I have been buzy cutting and shaping it to fit the bike. I had to cut the front and back off and then slice a section off the back and then re-glue the little back piece that covers the seat base. The top of the seat foam (where ya plant ya ass) has been sliced off as will to lower the high of the seat and then I had to sand and shape the foam to how I want it to look on the bike. I hope its going to look ok, but its a bit hard to know without the seat cover on. I will be getting a cover made up tomorrow and hopefully by the end of the week I will have a new looking seat for the bike

After having to cut and shape a seat foam, the seat was sent to a guy to make a cover and put the cover on. I have just finished the lettering at the back of the seat. A new set of foot pegs are now on the bike. Good big sharp pegs, it will be like riding a modern bike ;D. The pegs are from a pit bike.

it's looking good DJ!

i must say i am enjoying reading the progress and checking out the progress pics.

i'm in the middle of a rebuild on my CR500 and enjoying that at present. i had to fabricate some brackets
(some weird shapes and angles)  as the 86' frame is slightly different to the 85' model. but nothing like the work that you are putting in

The foot pegs I got of Trade Me for $50 and had to cut the mounting lug, do a bit of grinding, filing and form the springs to fit. The next job is to make a rear brake peddle out of ali to give it a werkys kind of look. I'm still going through motor parts and waiting on a few bits and pieces to arrive from overseas. Hopefully you guys will get to see in in the flesh at CD5 if I have it up and running reliably, and ya can pick holes in it then ;D , but as always in vmx, nothing is finished, its always work in progress ;D

The project is coming along, I took the frame into the powdercoaters today and they bead-blasted it and I knew of a couple of places that needed welding so it was a mad dash at lunch to get the frame then go to my welder to glue it back together and then back to the powdercoaters to get its primer coat on after lunch. All going well I might have a frame to work with in the weekend. I'll post up some pictures of the frame so all the non believers in powdercoating can have a look and voice their oppinion on why it shouldnt be done ;).

In the mean time I have been working on a couple of bits and pieces for the bike. I made a new rear brake pedal and have bought new uni-filters for it and new levers (cheapies). I am cleaning parts and getting them ready to go to my electro platers. I have to strip (de-lace) the wheels and all that, so its a buzy time and I dont like to rush this kind of work but if I dont pull my finger out of my ass the bike wont be ready for CD-5. What tyres do you guy recommend for Raymond Terrace?

tyres for raymond terrace?
i used to ride there years ago {20yrs ago!} and it was about the same as concrete but not quite as soft {no bull!} but read the CD5 bizzo again and you'll read it's being re-surfaced so tyre choice is anyones guess. track is a nice layout though so i for one am looking forward to getting back to "the terrace" again.
lookin good DJ!

Vandy I know nothing about flat-tracking but I would love to give it a go. The only problem is I will probably run a 520 chain on this bike. Thanks for the heads up on the tyre choices. Concrete you say, bugger I hate the hard stuff, give me mud anyday.
Eno, I didnt think you or bill ever spelt beer ;) ;D

DJ,An intermediate tyre is ok at Raymond Terrace the dirt is actually reasonbly good for the barren land of OZ.(I last raced there two years ago).
PS Good to see that we are trying to save their rugby team by gifting them a decent coach eh!
