Not sure what its worth, guess it depends on what you want it for, but i know what a Yamaha champions worth. Depending on the Nickel and on how early the number sequense is start at $1K and work up from there for finish, welds, straightness, provinence and above all correct mounts and stamps ( you'd be surprised how many where modded for the next years motor or another sponsors brand)
i Have a few guys in the US pinging me for it, seems they are having a HD - MX250 Dirt tracker revival ATM in the states, a few more making the rounds over there and a lot of "show and shine style fair happening for some reason. Seems a lot of kit is going back to the US, and the guys over there are getting cranking at folks who are taking them out, i copped some shit from some bloke a while back who started mouthing off i was stealing there heritage. WtF - i said if anything they are jap motors so you stole it from them, seems i attract trouble
any how - Not that many A/M frames where made in numbers for the HD 2 smokers as they were not that great a donk for the average punters, given most where aparently made up of Sx and MX parts left over in company sell offs, italian time frames and the results of the lack of sales. if i recall some champ frames where just made up or should i say converted at the factory and stamped for same, i think the set out on the engine mounts is the same or very similar to the YZ/Dt style, and as they wanted to clear out floor stock of the frames they had made up. ( money issues also) the only carried a few to order, boss, redline and others also made some frames up to order. Veried success happend over the short miles right up till the 80's even against the water cooled but i dont think it really had the support on the ground, although Jay springsteen won an astro on one in a short track If i recall with a trackmaster frame for the little HD making appearances but then again he was ridding the XR 750's so with full factory support he wouldnt be riding anything else.
If you look at Niel keens or Gary nixon 70's catolougues they dont list the HD as an options, however the 4130 chromo frames where made up and Do have the HD2 stamp and ### numbers, also have the later 3 position shock arms, etc etc in the 77-80 era so they where made up to suit but im thinking they only made the motors for 3 years then pulled the pin so there would be a few basket cases out there, mix and match motors, frame even modded stock frames too. Got to say that the orange looks good though on glass
But Save your pennies, these frames arent a cheap option just for a knock up of something, or to mock up with some other donk you have sitting around you'd only be going down this track if your serious about building something special, otherwise Truly its just a waste of a rare frame.
which is why i have done nothing with it.
