forget about fibreglass...i got a pair of sideplates for my yz250h off prehistoric from nsw and im totally unimpressed, what a ripoff $150 bucks down the drain. the airbox side had next to not chance of fitting and plus the insides of them were black... dc plastics are the best if you just wanna race and not resto......at least they fit and are white all over......

I gotta give a plug for DC Plastics. After being totally stuffed around by dirt overstock on a silencer I asked DC Plastics, by email, if they could supply it and it wasn't even something they stocked. No problems what so ever and reasonable freight as well. I agree that some of their plastic would not suit the shed queen  ;D brigade but with service like that they will be getting my return business.

Odd. I found the 100% opposite. Absolutely first class result, perfect fit and superb finish for the guards, side-covers and number-plate. And yes, the inside of the guards is black. But that didn't concern me as they aren't intended to be resto replacements. I suppose it depends on what you want and expect.

Andrew,

Are the fibreglass side covers the ones in the photo you posted in the DG silencer thread ??  It's a really sweet resto.  If mine looks half as good as that I will be wrapped.

Luke,
What bike did you fit yours to ?

Cheers

Looks good to me.  By the time you black out the number plates and the other section it's all good.
Did you have to do much work to them to get them to that state (polishing, fitting etc)?

Fitting was only a pain on the cover/airbox side, guards and left side cover were easy. I didn't polish them at all but I did give them a wipe down with alcohol to remove the injection moulding release residue (Its the substance they spray into the moulds to allow easy release after cooling) as it can affect how well decals stick.

Mine are for a 78/79 PE. I was rapt - I sent him some tatty old side-covers and some EXCELLENT repro's came back. I also got an excellent front number-plate. I was quite pleased. So, I then sent him a pair of mint fenders and he did those. Again a very, very nice result. He seemed a nice bloke and turned out some good stuff. If the YZ stuff isn't good enough, let him know.

they were the dc plastic sidecovers on show in that pic yz250h.....the only gripe i have with the fibreglass jobs were the airbox side didnt fit properly and the insides were black...sure people are saying use the fibreglass ones when you race and use dc for show..but what about the amount of shit and dust its going to let inside the airbox cause its not properly sealed up by the sidecover.... ???

Yeah,
I remember Cyclegod saying none of the repro plastics seal well around the airbox.

I went to Clarke rubber and bought some "sticky-back" sealing foam and put it inside the cover where the airbox opening contacts it. It left enough of an impression in the foam to leave me confident that nothing was getting in there.
