OK here's my take on it.
So long as Dave doesn't rip anyone off, sell shit, not disclose obvious faults that are not shown in photos, misrepresent etc etc then I don't really see a problem with what he is doing.
A so called well respected? dealer sold me two bikes that I would have to say haven't been quite the way they were represented - now that is not what we want from people who frequent the forum. One of those bikes I intend to resell for what it owes me but I will disclose what the major fault is - it's called honesty. And NO - the 440 is NOT for sale - that was the better one!
For those of you nay-sayers out there try importing a bike and you will see that it is not cheap and not always straight forward so if someone else gets the pleasure of planting their arse on a rare old bike. Likewise to restore a bike to a good saleable standard takes lots of dollars and hours and hours of work, from the sourcing of bike, sourcing of parts, out sourcing of work and K's of driving about etc and that is before you have spun a spanner !!!
BTW - My definition of a good saleable standard doesn't mean a hasty application of rattle can straight over the original base paint, faults and all, nor failing to point out a TOTALLY flogged rear engine mount or a smashed R/H case from a spat chain!) I mean a well restored bike that I the sellers view will pass any test commensurate with the description given.
At least Dave might have got a few more guys to think about pre 65
Who really cares if he doesn't want to be the one doing it - sounds like he's been there and done that - people are still allowed to change their mind last time looked.
And a week and a half is a long time in a housefly's life, lol!
My two bobs worth
