An RM500D is an '83 model, first year of the 500's. The disc brake is the '85 model, the last 500 suzuki made.

Except for the LT500R "Quadzilla" an engine that should have been put in a two wheeler  >:(

i reckon ive found evidence of works 500 suzukis that were water cooled. found it a little while back in a book, its very interesting. i will have to get the pictures on here! and see what you think. they are pictures of a period 500cc mid 80's race in UK or europe. the radiators, side number plates etc do not look like any other RM! the side number plates look like RN plates and same/similar to other works bikes like the Lackey bike. i was pretty shocked when i saw the pics.

andre vromans rode a watercooled rm 500 for part of the season in 1984 so i would say there would be some out there still  the picture that was on the last forum is a possibility but i think the works bike had bigger radiators   8) luv to have one  :P

Ok this is what I’ve found in the book Trail bikes & Motorcross ISBN 0-86272-416-3
There are several different photos throughout the book at different locations around the same track
These ones are the first corner of a Camel motorcross race and the only one showing Suzukis
I date the race to be around 83 or 84
Black numbers on yellow plates means 500cc race
Rider 63 is riding a CR 500. I can clearly see this on a side on shot elsewhere in the book. Also I have identified several other 500 cc bikes such as KTM 495 and Husky 500 so I could safely say it’s a 500cc race.
I think it’s in Europe somewhere as a lot of people are wearing M.Robert and Sinisalo gear and many bikes have Renthal bars and Acerbis front fenders. In some shots I could read the riders names on the back of their pants and they are German or European names.
The bike we’re looking at is bike number 2 which is second into the corner. Looks to be water cooled, looks as if the pipe bends back behind a radiator. Also has vented front plate. I think bike 2 and 12 are the same bikes if you compare the side plates. They have something written on the seat but I can’t read it. They look like works style Suzuki plates. Also bike 9 (air cooled) seems to have works style number plates. Ive looked at normal RMs and the mounting holes are in different locations.
Preston Petty Tony D front fenders on these suzuki’s also indicate these are most likely works bikes.

So that’s what I’ve found. I’m pretty confident bike 2 is a water cooled works 500 Suzuki RN. I’m sure someone out there can tell us exactly who riders 2, 12 and 9 are!

me again stuffed up the year it was 1983 number 2 is andre vromans number 9 is jean jacques bruno and 12 could be either harry everts or gerard rond or yvan van den broeck take your pick they all rode for suzuki in 83  they had a strong team as you can see by the first turn picture andre has the watercooled rn500 not sure how many were made but there would have been at least 2 number 9 and 12 are on factory rn83s its a pity brad lackey did not ride the works suzuki andre had in 83  8) he would have smoked em  ;D

Guys,
Number 2 Vromans and (12) Harry Everts rode the watercooled 500's in the later part of the 83 season.I have a video of the final round when Carlquist won the championship and theres some great footage of the Everts bike and Vromans racing his at the front.I suspect they ended up being crushed or sent back to Japan, but perhasp some of our international contacts could help.PS the last 500 was 1985 the mighty F model.
