Hey Roger,

Back to yr TSM 250. Looks nice. TF tank suits pretty well.

What are the forks from?

In the interests of saving a possible disaster down the track tho, I think you'll need more gussetting on the swingarm forward of the new bot shock mount.

,,,,,,,,,,yeah,I thought that too John! I'll probably put a full length rib on it as I also want to hang the centre stand from the front of the swingarm.

Yeh Roger,

A full length gusset would be a considerable benefit I believe - preferably under the swingarm. Gussets are best in tension (they can be made thinner) & it would interfere less w the chain on the underside.

I have a theory that much of the TM/TS's handling probs are due to the spindy poorly braced swingarm & would be improved w gussets along the bottom of ea arm. I'll try & take some pics & post them to illustrate what I mean.

Would that be a PE250 front end on yr bike?

What seat is it?

Makes no difference if the arm is braced under or over.As the aim is tie both arms together to stop arms bending independantly, or if your putting a rib on there that only increases the amount of material the forces have to bend.Which is the 'steel ruler rule' ie get a ruler have the numbers facing you and hands on each end, now try to bend each end toward the ground or sky, next try the same thing with the numbers facing the ground.

The seats a PE but not sure what the forks are..........too short for a PE,just a set that I had and they fit,but by the hub and the triple clamps ,they appear to be Suzuki.

Not sure what I will do with the swingarm exactly ,might shorten, rib and "banana" it yet..........I like the idea of making a silk purse out of a pigs arse !!!!!!

L, w all due respect, yr pretty quick to jump to conclusions & not consider the full picture.

When yr bracing to stop the arms moving independantly of ea other, yr right, it makes no diff whether the brace is on the top or bottom (except that its more out of the chains way on the bottom) because the flex goes both ways at diff times, so the gusset has to cope w compression & tension whether its on top or bot.

Those stresses are highest close to the pivot/cross brace & taper off the futher you move away from the pivot/crossbrace. If thats all yr bracing for, the gusset can also be tapered down as you move away from the crossbrace.

However, under the shock mount its a diff story, & thats what I was referring to. If the gusset there is on top it is largely under compression & therefore has to be thick enough to resist buckling as well. If it is underneath, its largely in tension & can be slightly thinner cos it doesn't have to resist buckling.

R, is that the std TM/TS rear frame/seat loop that yr using, or was it modified when you moved the shock mt forward? It seems to fit that seat perfectly.

The rear diagonal upright and top shock mounts were cut off and moved forward and the rear loop was heated and bent to match the PE seat
