1965 350 Ducati 350 Scrambler. The bike is owned by Brian O'Connor in Virginia USA and has twice won the AHRMA Premier Lightweight national title. The bike I bought from him has that very engine. Pretty little thing eh?

The 1980 CR's, 1980 RM's, 1980 YZ's and 1979 KX's-A5, and the euro bikes, Maico's, Huskies etc. To me it was the pinnacle of MX and I dont think that the manufacturers of motocross bikes have ever reach the same hieghts again. All the bikes look different but, are also similar in their sleekness, aggressive stance, and general bussiness like, no frills approach for what they were made for.

I would agree but I think the Husky CR390 is the BEST of the BEST. It looks brutal and gracefull. It has form and function, nothing unnecessary and nothing out of place, everything beautifully designed.

Come on guys. No vacillating, no philosophical 'fence sitting', just a  'balls on the line' decisive one choice, backed up with a piccy. By order Herr Threadmeister.

Brad...The bike is American racer Brian O'Connors pre 65 Ducati 350. It's very similar to the unfinished Hindall framed Ducati I bought from him which is on the water as we speak.
Picking the best looking anything can never have a definitive result. If we all had the same tastes we'd all be in love with the same woman or riding the same brand bike. Having said that, I like everyone else have my picks which are, in most cases way different to the bikes I've raced or owned.

*pre 65. I've made my point earlier that not only do I think that the MK3 Rickman Metisse (with any engine) the best looking pre 65 bike, I think it's the best looking dirt bike period.

*pre75. Even though many consider them pretty ordinary, I think Yamaha got it right with the MX250/360/500. The lines flow smoothly and it looks nice trom every angle.The OSSA Phantom gets my runner up.

*pre 78. I'll stick wiith Yamaha here and nominate the HL Aberg replica. They look tough even on the trailer.

*Evo. I like the 78-80 CR 250 Hondas. Pretty from every angle.

*Pre 85. Sadly individuality starts to take a back seat as the manufacturers started to manufacture different coloured replicas of each others products. By the time the 90s had arrived it had become hard to tell the various makes from each other by anything other than colour. Don't get me wrong, I like modern bikes and I own a KTM, but the individuality has gone as far as my tastes go.

*Dirt track. I apologise for using another of Jonseys bikes to make a point but his bikes are as beautiful as they come.
You'd have to dig deep to find a bike as beautiful as his Trackmaster/850 Nourish Weslake. From every angle it oozes testosterone.

Exoridinary isn't it. The MX is the LAST bike I expected to be nominated. I didn't think any one had any respect for the old beastie let alone affection.

The MX was my first MX'er, Motocrossed it (and won two open 'c' grades at Kembla), Road Raced it (and won a club 250 at Amaroo), Dirt Tracked (and won a club, Villawood M.C.C., championship) and when it wasn't competitive at circuit racing converted it to enduros and rode to work, rode the trails and enduro raced it. I loved it and thrashed it and have still got it.

But I never thought it was pretty or had any attachment to it other than in the 'doing' (in fact I was and still am somewhat 'defensive' about the old MX) - I absolutely loved it for the 'doing' and I'm still in awe of it and reckon its about the best bike ever created (but I would never argue it around a rally fire for fear of being ostraized, laughed at, humiliated and ridiculed).

But when it comes to the aesthetics I thought it was plum ugly, like a barge arsed woman - sure it had some interesting points of redemption but the overall was.....

(And I had the Silver Grey first model which was far superior in looks to that tarted over Americanised yellow crapper ).


To me it aesthetics suggested what it was - a tarted over trail bike.

But that's aesthetics; each to their own.

As an older chappie I've got to agree that not too many bikes have come along as pretty as a Metisse.
I melt for anything with a nickel plated frame but can see the beauty in the Red Devil Hondas and VR Montesa Cappras. I love that crinkle cut finning.

The best looking STOCK motocross bike has to be the Husky 390, close to perfection.
Start modifying your bike and then the 1978/79 Red Devil starts to come into its own. Put on an alloy swingarm, Fox Forx and Shox, a DG pipe and muffler and white number plate backgrounds and you've got a 2 wheeled Hawko.
