Double The Dirt II
« on: August 30, 2008, 02:00:24 pm »

I just had a phonecall from former Wollongong vintage racer Lance Winley who moved to Bris Vegas a few years ago and who is now president of Brisbane Motorcycle Club. Lance is trying to drum up some southern support for their big DOUBLE THE DIRT II event to be held at the clubs Mick Doohan Motorcycle Complex at Nudgee on October 11  12. The event follows a similar format to the legendary Condoblin Greybeards events of the nineties with a big Vintage Dirt Track on the Saturday and an equally exciting Vintage Motocross on the Sunday. All classic classes from pre '65 to Evo are catered for as well as pre 85 Sidecars and even juniors from 13-16 years of age.

The club is hoping to attract as many interstate entries as possible and as an attracion will be hosting an Interstate Challenge with a perpetual trophy up for grabs. The club is also using the age group format, just like the good old days!
The Brisbane club has always been a leader in vintage promotion so I hope as many riders can support this great event. Lance is an old veteran of the Condo meeting as were a number of the older club members and he told me that they intend this meeting to eventually grow in popularity and status to the standard once held by Condo.

There is free camping at the track, free tyre changes and a BBQ, bonfire and movies at the track on Saturday night. Lets hope everybody is pumped after the Canberra Nats and ready for another big event. This one should be a ripper.

Spot on Firko!
i did this meeting last year and had a ball! it was my first ever dirt track ride, i came horribly last in nearly every race but just enjoyed the experience all the same. with good food available, free tyre changing, nightime movies & banter. it's well worth a look.

OK, looks like I've scored a leave pass and will be there for the motocross on Sunday. Should be great fun, I'll be bringing the 75 RM125 to ride in Pre 78.

I've seen the piccies of races there, but what's the track actually like? Fast/slow, tight/open, jumps big or small?

Hey Graeme,
i reckon you'll love it on your little RM. track surface is a real treat! so no probs there.
she's a not too tight but not too open with a nice main straight for a 125. jumps are bumps and very pre~75 friendly. great to see you'll be up to give Nudgee a go! will catch you there for sure!

Sounds good to me. Anyone else from NSW/ACT planning to go?

What, no southeners going? I guess being the same date as HEAVEN Rd 8 doesn't help... As has been the case all year for me most of the HEAVEN dates have clashed with either family events or other vmx events I'd planned to ride. So it is this time. But I am reallly looking forward to having a ride at Nudgee. Just been watching a Mighty TSMan video of it and it looks like a bit of fun alright. The RM should go well there, probly only held back by the rider!

Look forward to seeing where I'd be riding if I still lived up there.

I here that the entries are pathetically low. Every body is turning into couch potatoes maybe!

As long as there's enough bikes there to guarantee me a race I'm happy. And the forecast is cool and showery. What's the track like in the wet?
