Back in the day I guess thats what we did. adventure ride. Two man tent occy strapped to the front forks under the light and on the guard. Bag of tools. a drum of fuel and a few cans of food all strapped to the rack. We would set off friday afternoon and go as far as we could through the forests and maybe find a petrol station in a small town. I recall Lennie having a can of Finelek taped to his frame in front of the shock and he is stopped sideways at a fork waiting for an idiot who comes over the hill and slides straight into him. Sticky foam was on everything.
From my efforts on a KLR, fuel seems to be the decider on which roads and trails you can take. Most of the Modern Adventure bikes have extended range tanks so adapting those to an Old Banger could be an issue. My Dommie had an Acerbis tank .
