ITC shock springs
« on: October 05, 2016, 06:27:36 pm »
I've heard that yellow ITC springs are a heavier rate than white ITC springs, can anyone confirm or dispel this please?
Cheers,
K

hey mick, ive heard from plenty that they are heaps better. no idea if they are heavier. the word is they don't sit as much as the white ones, have a bit more spring. (suggests a heavier initial rate)

Have the  yellow  pair  on my 83 XC 500 .
Feel firmer than the white ones on my '83  250 & have slightly larger diameter coil as well.
Got them here  ;   (spring rate listed on link)

VMX shocks , We don't just sell them - I design and produce them individually for you since 1989.

Correct Mick. The 9mm dia wire 16 coil is the stiffest ITC direct replacement at 10% stiffer. The white springs are 8.5mm 16.5 coils

So the plot thickens. I have 2 pairs of yellow ITC springs here (untouched originals), both are 8.5mm wire thickness with the same amount of coils as the white sets I have. Interesting to say the least.  I also have a set of non progressively wound springs with 8.0 wire thickness, 13 coils. These are supposedly a heavier rating but I really am uncertain. Walters springs are a good price, I'll do some testing with what I have but it looks like I may be giving him a call.

The 9mm progressive ITC springs have code 00180-40 L4813.

13 coil will be stiffer than 16 coil of same wire size.

For what it's worth I took Curnutt springs from my OR390 to Marsh Springs here in Brisbane. Said I need these but 20% stiffer. Three days and $250 from memory. Just had to paint them myself.
