Bigbore 2st cylinder identification help.

What is this top end for?
86mm chrome bore.

Early KX500? Definitely not YZ465 or 490

That head screams KX and i think late 83 were 86mm


KX500 Cylinder diameter
1983 - New 86.000-86.015mm or 3.3858-3.3864" - Service Limit 86.10mm or 3.390"
1984 - New 86.010-86.025mm or 3.3862-3.3868" - Service Limit 86.10mm or 3.390"
1985-2004 - New 86.020-86.035mm or 3.3866-3.3872" - Service Limit 86.10mm or 3.390"

Thanks, it's a 84 KX500, I was fooled by the 83 and 84 having different reedblocks.

Yes the 83 & 84 do have different reed blocks (you can fit a V force to an 83 but not the 84)
But the exhaust spigot on your barrel has the groove for a O ring which is typical of the 83 barrel.
84 model had the O rings in the exhaust rather than the barrel

I have an 83 kx500 single plug bike and a 84 kx500 twin plug bike sitting
here in front of me now,83 6 bolt intake , 84 4 bolt intake ,but the 84 head
has 5 fins at the front and 3 at the back ,and look both the same as pokeys pic
not the sand cast head

Ah yes, twin plug head, I stand corrected, I missed that.
Still I wasn't aware the 84 barrel had a O ring groove in the barrel?
