The old bump stop has crumbled. I got a replacement.
The spring is off and the preload lock nut loosened.
What do I do now?

This looks like a job for a suspension shop. Where do you live ? One of our trained outlets can help you with that , if you wish

if the bottom mount unscrews from the shaft then you need to do that. you will need some blocks the right size to clamp the shaft though and some heat will probably be also needed.
if the bottom mount doesnt unscrew then the only way is to pull the shock right apart

Well that’s how I’ve always done it. I don’t know if an IT shock is any different, but for twins I just unscrew the bottom eyelet holding the shaft in special shaft clamp blocks, slip on the bump stop and screw the eyelet/clevis mount back on. If I already have the shock apart with the piston off then I can slide the bump stop on from that end and the bottom eyelet does not have to be unscrewed. Pretty simple really.
if its an all sealed up/not rebuildable shock with non removeable bottom eyelet then thats another issue but can be done as you would know.

who wants to disassemble a good gassed up shock?
Not me!
Looks like I'll slice the new bump stop with a razor blade and then superglue it back together when it is on the shock.
Thanks for your replies guys.

Actually the best shock fix ,I have seen so far by a specialist , was a TT 600 shock. The "doctor " fitteted a grease nipple to the reservoir and topped the leaking shock up with the grease gun . Well ,it did not leak anymore .
( Full details of that procedure on page 51)

You are so right Paul , that actually should have gone straight after the introduction page where it explains the "Caution" stickers.
