A production line of Elsinore's under-going restoration in the US. Looks like this is why NOS parts prices are on the rise.

as a matter of interest I was forwarded an email the otherr day fom Marty Tripes - ex Team Honda rider from early 80's late 70's.  He is getting into making Factory replicas under the MTR banner - CR250's that he claims will be better than the factory bikes of the day.

Will be interesting to see what actually eventuates!

cheers

that's good to hear, someone giving a modern (ish) 2T a big makeover to run with the 4Ts.  marty was a good rider despite his weight.  though his supercross track record doesn't quite reflect that - watching the world's best sx races dvd's, he won the first one or two (?)supercross's ever held....then some time out...then one or two third places in late seventies and early eighties....then dissappeared again to have a go at the what '83 sx....where he was in third place on first lap before being sideswiped and ate some dirt bigtime and was out with bust shoulder.  by that time, he was lets say big, and suspect he backed off after that...

but great to see he's still involved with the sport, and keen to make some competitive two bangers for those few who'd be up for it.  the main advantage i can see is they're cheaper to run, so good for up to say A graders who do rebuilds themselves.

sorry guys - after reading TwistandShouts reply - I may not have been clear enough - not current bikes is my understanding - but CR250s from the late 70's early 80's!!!

Apparently Terry Good from MXworksbikes has bought the first one.

Opening up another can o Worms but, So is a modern replica legal ?  I know that the CZ guys bought all the tooling to make there new ones so its based on the same tooling, but if you make it from new technologies is that really a replica or by visuals only ?

its allowed in road racing .as long as it looks the same on the outside it should be legal.most people dont have sdt shocks, fork intemals, ignitions, reed valves, heads exhausts any way.so what would it matter if the whole bike was new.

Hmmm, have we discussed similar a while back...
Somewhere in the old posts is the question about the Postie bike - who remembers that one?
It went massive and the debate raged over this point: if it hasn't changed then why can't a '98 model (I think) Postie bike be allowed to compete in VMX given the design hasn't changed in 30 something years. :-\ :-X

The Postie thread also sprung to mind when I saw Firkos post elsewhere re the 'modern' Indian Enfield being legal for VMX.
Round two? Bring it on!! ::)

nah I aint going there because this also went balistic with the CR450 bit.  I am not sure whether Marty is making from scratch aka 2008 models if you like or is restoring old ones as per Vintage Factory.

Anyways I am chickening out - just wouldn't mind seeing an MTR replica regardless!!!!

cheers

Hi Gentleman
I recently found a rolling chasis for a Honda 1975 CR 250, I have subsequently been offerred a similar period MR 250 motor. My recollection is that this is the enduro model of the time, and the MT 250 was the road going model. Am I correct ? Anybody know anything of the differences between the CR 250 and the MR 250. I am led to believe that it is only the porting and even the gear box was the same, just the gearing on the rear wheel.
All advise will be welcome at this time.
Also can somebody affirm to me that the 1975/ 1976 Honda which was red was known as the Fire engine at that it proceeded the Red Rocket.

75 CR250 had red sideplates and tank stripe. MT and CR are closely related engines. Not sure how MR engine compairs.

The MR250 was a later model than the MT250. The MR250 had a similar motor to the '75 '76 CR250 with the exhaust port exiting on the opposite side of the cylinder to the '74 CR and MT250's.

Hi jimg1au

Thanks for the feedback, may I ask how similar or diffrent the MR otor is to the CR, would you ID the differences as you see them.
Will the motor slot into the CR frame ?
Any other advice you deem relevant?
