I think that the old bike is a model H Triumph but could be wrong on the model and I would think about 1914/16 and looks very nice.

Well Done - After a bit of googling it looks like you might have it. Definitely Triumph from that era but from the info i found the model H didn't have pedal power which this one does but it was hard to find anything conclusive on that . After doing some research I was surprised to find out that the engine capacity was a lot larger than it looked at around 499 to 550cc depending on what you read.

A few weeks back I picked up a Safari tank off ebay for the DRz so decided to go out for a trail ride with a mate of mine to try it out and ended up doing around 360k's for the day and found some great tracks along the way as well as some rather strange round bales on a property near Dederang.

Just saved another classic old bike from a life of sitting out in the weather under a tarp and going to waste. Needs some work but it is complete and in reasonable original condition. All things going well the plan is to get this on Historic Rego and then who knows maybe one day I might even get to Harrow on it.
What do you think?

Cool. I'm in the process of "rescuing" a TT350 that was doomed to a similar fate. It shows just over 6000k's on the speedo but it wasn't given much respect in it's short life. It runs great now that I replaced the rotted carb inlets, disassembled and cleaned the carbs and removed the troublesome auto decomp from the head. Cams are as new and clearances are spot on. I also opened up the top of the airbox so the poor thing can breathe. I don't know how Yamaha expected the motor to breathe with 2 x 40mm holes as an airbox inlet
I picked up a cheap Staintune muffler and have grafted it onto the TT with a bit of cutting and welding. It looks and sounds heaps better than the heavy stock muffler.
Also had to replace the swingarm and linkage bearings....OUCH, nearly $500 for the parts! At least now there is no free play at all. Disassembled, cleaned and renewed the forks with fresh seals and 10wt oil.
I've put on some tyres and replaced the brake shoes and pads.....there's another $300  The wheel sets cleaned up great. As far as I can tell, the bike had only had 1 front tyre and 2 rears in it's life!
Now for a bit of a cosmetic once over, a new seat cover and the old jigger should be good for another 30 years.

Your not wrong but I am quite attached to all of them so not sure what I would get rid of. Although I did sell the Little XR250 a while back and may consider getting rid of the XL500 if this bike turns out OK.

A couple of weekends back I took the Tiger away for a night up to the Autumn Leaf Rally at Tumorrama between Tumut and Wee Jasper and along the way ended up having to do my first roadside tube change for this bike which was the result of the bike shop putting an 18" tube in my 17" rear. Just glad it blew on this trip at low speed on the dirt rather than 2up hooking around the bitumen in the hills which could have been the case.

After taking the wife's little XT200 along with the CR250 and XR600 to the last VTR Vinduro at Yass I found that I really enjoyed the little 200 in the tight stuff so I have decided to embark on a project to turn an old XT225 I bought as parts bike over a year ago into a customized lightweight vinduro bike that will suit my larger size a bit better so here are some pics of what I am up to.
First of all here is a shot of me on the old 200 courtesy of the VTR guys.
 

And here is the 225 when I bought it. On the surface it looks reasonable but when you start digging it is full of surprises and none of them were good but as I said it was only originally bought for parts.


Check out the really cool bit of kinked rubber hose that joins the muffler of unknown origin to the original header pipe (some people just have no idea)


Along with that it has no front brakes and the wrong size front axle, a Kawasaki 18" rear wheel with the wrong brake assembly that doesn't work and has no compression due to a bent valve, is missing the airbox to carb boot and no doubt a few other things I haven't discovered yet but that is all part of the challenge.

While fiddling and throwing around ideas I found the alloy muffler from the 85 xr250r I scrapped should work well and then I started looking at an old IT tank and XT200 seat as well as fitting an XR250r rear shock as can been seen at the bottom of the 2nd pic next to the stock one.

Always have some sort of project on the go, so spend quite a bit of time in the shed but not a big fan of the cold which is why many years ago I built a heater out of an old LPG cylinder, 2 speed fan forced I might add hence the corrugated iron cowling you can see around the outside.


Also a few weeks ago in preparation for a Classic Club dirt bike ride I finally got the old XL500s on Historic rego. Unfortunately due to bad weather the ride was called off but this arvo after work I took it for a spin out to Lake Hume and also took some pics.

Funny you mention having a fan installed on your heater. I have the same set up and was just last night thinking about a fan. Where did you put the fan?

Thanks. The XL was in a very sad state when I found it and it's future was looking even worse if it had stayed where it was. Fortunately I was able to do a deal that made me happy enough to take the gamble on it and thankfully it has paid off.  Because all of my bikes are for riding enjoyment rather than show I will probably never do a full resto on any of them but I do like to make them tidy looking and most of all reliable and the XL seems to have worked out quite well. As I did quite a bit to it mechanically, Before deciding to register it I took it to the VTR Vinduro at Nimmitabel as well as the Broadford bike Bonanza to test it out.

As for the heater. Here is a pic of the fan, from memory I bought it at a garage sale for $5 and that was probably around 12 years ago at least. Since this pic was taken I have moved the heater from there to our current house.


I reckon the fan really makes a difference. It heats the whole shed rather than having to stand close to it for warmth, also everything located around the back of it stays cool so it can be located closer to the wall etc.
