Trokel's Ride & Bike Pics

As I seem to have a lot of bike stuff going on at the moment which includes my old dirt bikes and classic club stuff on road bikes as well as some adventure rides I decided to start a thread were I can share some of the pics that I take along the way and use it as way to discuss anything of interest that may arise as a result so please feel free to comment or ask questions along the way..

Here's a few from today to kick it off and as I get time I might also go back through some of my earlier pics and post them up.

Decided to take my old XR for a spin after recently re doing the top end. These were taken in the scrub around Yackandah Vic

Hmmm, What should I buy next?
In case you were wondering it was an 85' CR250R. Then a 76' DT250 and a 01' XR250 and it didn't stop there

I take it your not a fan of the early XR's then ::).
 As this is an 83' complianced XR250R, that makes it nearly 33 years old and although I don't know what sort of history it had I have to say it has done a mighty fine job of luging my fat arse around a few vinduro's since I have owned it. Therefore I must say I have a lot of respect for this mighty little bike and I think it's quite entitled to be getting a bit smokey after all that time.

And even though it was getting tired it still managed this at Cooka in 2014 with around 115kgs on it's back. ;D


As for the motor when I pulled it down it really only needed a set of rings but as I had a better piston, rings and barrel from my old XL I swapped it over instead and was really happy with how the bike performed today. So with the XR250R, XL500s and Cr250R all up and running I think I will give the Husky a rest and make it an all Honda affair for me at Nimmitabel this year. ;D
Here's a few picks of the donor bike. Unfortunately it did a gear in the gearbox a while back while lugging myself and the young bloke around some single trail near Bonnie Doon (yep that's right a 30 year old bike that didn't cost very much broke down while carrying far more than it was designed to in terrain it wasn't designed for and I had a lot of fun doing it, how dare it- sigh. Will I never learn) which was a real shame as I was quite fond of it as well but with so many bikes on the go at the moment I decided to steal some parts off it for the XR.

I just got one of those XL250R's for my son to ride for $100.00 , it had a rocker cover leak and the frame had cracked at the right foot peg through rust and neglect fixed both , cleaned the carbs out and it run like a beaut , he has the choice of a 250s twin shock or the 250r now so he's like a puppy with 2 d!@ks he loves both although the mono shock is his first choice most times I even dont mind a ride around on either sometimes

Thanks Troy for starting the thread and photos of the trusty XR.

Once I get over this 'flu I will be freshening-up the XR250RF for this year's VTR events. 

I still haven't found a 2 stroke to mix up the riding.  Nearly bought an IT200 but the gap between seller's description and actual bike condition was a canyon. >:( 

Anyway, look forward to catching-up at Nimmitabel.

How many Husky fourstrokes make it to over 30 years old without a top end rebuild? For that matter, how many fourstroke Huskies still have the original motor in them?

I think 80-85 husky was referring to that particular model Xr 250 having head cracking problems.

Sounds like a good find at that price. I have a spare XR bottom end so I could probably get mine going again but honesly given the other bikes I have I think it will get parted out. Might use the disc brake front end on the XL500 if I find I don't like the 23" front.

Yes there is some excellent riding around this area and also some interesting things to go and see along the way.

Here's a couple of the underground hut in the Yack forest which I only just recently found out about.






This one was taken in the same section of forest which is normally either Pine plantation or eucalyptus scrub land as can be seen in the first pic at the start of this thread so this lush vegetation was quite a surprise.

Here's another one of the old XR after mixing it with some modern bikes at the local motocross club practice session and damn it was muddy.

make no mistake, the little xr 's from 83- 85 are great riding but can be high maintenance. hey, they even had a disk! ol mate has one that is a real rocket but he has just had to redo the top end after a billowing smokey finale he didn't need but he has got it back in tip top shape.

I saw some shocking fails in the 84 - 85 enduro seasons with cracked cases, head gaskets on a regular basis and all sorts of cam / valve gear issues and the bikes weren't right till the g model appeared and they have been great ever since. if well looked after, they didn't cause all that much trouble and some people have original bikes with original motors and no probs but there are some Lada's like that too

Here's a few bike pics from the SR500 Rally that is held at Bethanga each year and is only about 20mins away from me so this year I thought I better go out for a look. Especially now that I have a little 81' SR250 project on the go.
