WOW really it always amazed on this site  how people bitch about being RIPPED OFF,  the bike didn't do this or that , then pull it down to a full resto and then say that THIS is what I should have gotten for my money,  if you are going to fully understand and rebuild the bike then buy what you want,  just because someone is selling a bike YOU dont have to buy it , then call the guy a prick, BUMPER

bike described as "fully rebuilt" you would expect it NOT TO need a rebuild. guy didn't want to rebuild it, just payed for a rider. Although Caveot Emptor applies...get caught with a dog, cest la vie. ..all comes down to that all important look.

You are right mr husky , regardless of what it is advertised as, it up to the buyer to make the decision,  if you hand over the dollars you have made your choice,  even if the add said no money to spend, we all do to make it what we want and how we want it to ride ,BUMPER

BS Bumper - if somebody, particularly on this forum, said to me it had a rebuilt bottom end, or the top end had been done or the shockies rebuilt etc then that is what I would expect - all factored into the buying - no more or less.  To find some bikes so far from that - as mentioned here previously - doesn't sit well.

Its pronounced BULL SHIT , i guess it's easier to have a go at someone rather than taking a few tools  to pull a flywheel cover off or a pipe to have a look and use your brain rather than the add but what would i know ,merry Christmas

It's called Bullsit alright.

You can't check everything out, even after traveling 100s or more km to view something.
If someone says it's fully rebuilt (crank, gearbox, shocks, whatever) and they haven't been then you have every right to be angry and disappointed.

How do you tell if a crank is freshly rebuilt, (as claimed, and charged appropriately) or near the end of its life, but still in spec?

You can look in the exhaust port and see a new piston, but you can't see if it's bored appropriately.
How do you know it's not the last oversized piston, loose in the bore, while paying for a bike that's "just been rebuilt with the first oversized piston"?

I bought a bike from a shop, Xtreme motorbikes Forestville, WA,  that was "ready to race". Shipped from the other side of the country. Neither wheel could be tightened due striped threads, etc, etc.

I drove a few hrs, across the boarder to buy a modern bike that was described as "can't pick it from a new bike". It was red with rust in places, the muffler had been cut open and rewelded, etc. At least only my time and petrol were waisted on that one.

Sure the buyer must be aware, but lying is not ok.

Really the dishonesty is barely different to selling a known stolen bike.

On that note.
What can we do to reduce our chances of buying a stolen VMX bike? REVS is no use right?

I guess I did not loose a lot of money, probably only paid slightly more than it was worth. Just makes you cranky that people can straight out lie and get away with it, but I like to think I have enough talent to rebuild it where the previous owner barely knew how to start it. Bore was that worn I had it bored .25 over and it still didn't take all the marks out, owner told me when I called him that all Yamaha's rattle, and he had done the top end. On the other hand, I have met some bike owners that just do not know any better, twist the throttle and it makes a braaap sound, she must be going good.

Alarm bells should have been ringing from the get go. $1,500 for a IT200 with a fully rebuilt motor. I,d be expecting 3/4K. You said that you heard it running at the swap meet but when you got it home it rattles. How long after the swap meet did you buy it? I reckon you got a bargain at $1,500 despite it needing overhauling. There's nearly $1,000 in pipe, footpegs and bar risers, stuff you don't have to buy later.. So what you have to build the motor. Do it properly and it will give you another 30 years service. These bikes are a great thing and well worth any and all money tipped into them

I'll say,,,,that's a great score for a measly $1,500 Noboddy in their right mind would have expected anything more than a accordingly priced project.

Everyone knows the seller would have been bullshitting. The worlds full of it cause it full of humans. Nothin wrong with the world, just the majority of the blight on it.

Your looking at an easy $5K bike there(surely not that you would sell it) if your actually doing the nitty gritty as good as it looks aesthetically

If any ones unsure, try buying a new bike and watch your wallet get massaged when it comes to parts and service ::)
Anyhow your doing a great save, good luck and keep it up 8)

I never said it had a rebuilt motor, nor did the previous owner, just top end and everything else was in good condition. I don't want to form a rift amongst forum members, $1500 was maybe now a far price, back then not so great, but like I said not over the top. Was about 8 months later but owner said he didn't ride it, bars and pegs are gone as I want it more original, I would replace the pipe if I had a better original as well. I was just saying how disappointed I was and am now showing what I have done to improve the bike. All at peace with the owner, I would just like to show my progress with a few pictures on here, all work done to the best of my ability, genuine rod kit, all quality bearings, rebore, wiesco piston, trying to get all the electrics and road gear on there as well.

She's not happy about it, no room in the shed and this is a great spot, aircon flows out and I can still see/hear the tv, 3rd bike I have done there and I just ride it down the stairs when I'm finished.
