My first IT200

Saw this at a swap meet and have been in contact with the guy several times, eventually bought it. Asked a heap of questions and had heard it run but told him I would like to go over it, anyway,  325klm and I was on his doorstep, he was at work and had to come home to meet me. Big hurry, no fuel in bike, looked a bit rough but I had talked to this older guy for hours on the phone, usual come this far might as well go home with something. You guessed it, got it home rattles like a bastard, plus the usual stripped bastardised bits, feel a bit silly as I should have known better. Wonder if it is worth the 650klm to drive it through his door.

He also told me a couple times he had the original speedo which I factered into the cost of the bike, but looks like it's off an TT250.

Hi pecrazy.  I reckon you'll be IT crazy soon!  I had an IT200 's' (second last one with front disc) about 20 years ago and i loved it.  Reliable, fun, with so many enduro touches (rear wheel removal, air filter access etc).  Not especially fast but light and go anywhere.  Tons better than the it465 i had some years before.  A bit of care and attention  and youll have a great enduro fun machine!    8)

Bit disappointed in it at the moment, paid for a rebuilt bike in rideable condition.  We used to say, 2 things you never buy, Yamaha's and castrol oil.

Paid $1500 for it Ted, was given the story of how good a bike it was and how much he had put into it,  mate of mine that is into IT'S said a genuine speedo was worth $200 on it's own, but a TT speedo is worth nothing.

You paid $1500 and expected a $3500 bike?
Why care about the speedo? Are you planning to ride the bike or break it for spares?
They are easy to work on and great fun. Sort it out, ride it and enjoy it.

Don't expect a show quality bike but expect it to be what I was told it was, $1500 is a bit considering it's condition, I consider my PE175 to be worth $1500 and it is 20 times better condition. I can't even ride this bike untill it is restored, looks ok in the picture but is not rideable. Maybe this is why I don't get top dollar for the bikes I sell, I don't lie. I factered the cost of a speedo into the price, knowing that it would add value to the bike, or I could sell it.

         The Big give away was when he did not start it up for you if they say its running good
         that's the first thing they want to show you is how well it runs.
         And i suppose he wanted Cash...
         Looking at it i would say spend a Grand on it and you should have a good Bike.

$1500 seems like a pretty good buy from what I can see. I know he told you it's ready to run so that would be a let down to fire it up and hear the rattles. Ring him back and ask for some money back or you will name and shame him.....Ya never know, you might get some dosh back.

The good news is, Yamaha engine parts are fairly easy to get and the rest of the bike looks complete with all the hard to get bits on it, including a schmick pipe!

They are a great bike when going as a new one.

Yes. Reasonable value these days in that condition I reckon.
They fetch a lot more than a PE175. But they are a much better bike.

Didn't really need another project to spend money on, pulled the barrel off and the bore has a lip, piston has done a lot of work, rod clicks up and down. Really have to stop buying bikes sight unseen and believing that the &^%$ owner knows what he is talking about.
