Yamaha DT250 1978

G'day viewers  I have a 1978 DT250 it's a basket case. I pulled it out of the scrap metal yard a few years back & put it away. Now I was thinking of making it into a going play bike. So what are they like as enduro's or for the bush. I can't believe how ugly they are compared to the previous model DTs . Jimson

I'm looking for inspiration & you had to through that woman's name in yuk lol So ugly they are but mine will look nothing like original if I comit to doing a shed build. So did they handle okay & I except the engine is not that much different from the earlier model DT's ? Jimson

They handle adequately if a little heavy but you can always trim the fat...

they were OK J.  As mentioned heavy, didn't go too hard and suspension was on the soft side.  More dual jobbie than true trail bike.  Very reliable and fun but not a serious "race" bike in any form.

Thanks for that I like the reliable & fun side of that. I'm not good at going fast. Unless you ask my girlfriend lol so the bike will just be for fun. Jimson

A bloke was riding a nice original monoshock DT250 at Harrow on the weekend. His father had bought it new. He seemed to be getting along at a reasonable clip on it, and I saw him out on the loop on both days. "Reliable and fun" should be easily achieved from yours!

This is what I dragged out of the scrap metal yard a few years back. As I have a stash of earlier DT bits I thought I could use some to make this into a play bike. I also have a spare engine as well , so it could be cheap fun lol. Jimson

How would it look with a YZ125C tank? may have to change the seat though.

Tony I think all those tanks are on HL500s lol & Tex I looked at that, but I think it's to chunky for what I want. Thanks I'll keep looking. jimson
