Talking to a local farmer recently, told me the "figures" the CSIRO quotes about temperatures on record have been "revised" from the original figures of the 1920-1970s. being a farmer he also kept records himself, and funnily enough the CSIRO records now meet the requirements for global warming.

The temperature records are constantly being adjusted according to various parameters to correct for the quality of readings by old or non-standard equipment and to allow for various issues such as discontinuous records, movement of equipment, changes in procedures and so on. The broad effect has been a cooling of the past in the records. You might also notice that BOM tends to talk of records since 1910 as that is when the higher quality Stephenson screens came into general use. That might confound things slightly as it means the temps during the Federation Drought and the earlier hot spells (notably 1875-1878) don't get seen by the general public.

I think it's almost impossible to tell if it is hotter now or not as heavily adjusted records such as we have now simply are not the original records. The adjustments may be all appropriate - certainly BOM would tell you so - but I am doubtful. My opinion only of course.

But certainly the newspaper reports and other historical records support the idea that there have been some extremely hot times in the past. If you do some research you'll be surprised by just how hot, wet, dry, cold, and so on it has been in Australia over the past 200 years. Things now don't really seem that different as far as I can tell.

But then, I'm no scientist.

I like science, I am open to it and I have climate concerns.
But I do not like it if I have been played like a mug because data manipulation.
For example; second hand news though? ? ? i haven't researched for truth
In Newcastle, two friends have told me in the past week that they heard it admitted that the place for measuring historical  Newcastle temperatures was moved from Nobby's Headland to Newcastle University. In comparison the Uni is inland to the point where the temperatures vary from between 3 to 11 degrees hotter than the Nobby's measuring station which is situated in the coastal convection.
Convenient oversight, omission or intention.

Then again seeing is believing,,,,and definitely don't believe everything you see either.
Especially if Media, Government or those who stand to make financial gain are anywhere near the equation.

Although it is concerning that they are considering renaming Iceland to just plain old Land.

On the news yesterday.
Scientists were checking the water temps UNDER the antarctic glaciers.
Anyone see a problem with this.

NO Problem,  It's a Great Gig,   If you can get 'some-one' else to pay for you to do it!
Then you get to spend 12 months reviewing, refining & adjusting your results.
If you do it all 'very well' you'll get paid to go back and check for 'changes' each year, for ages.

What's changed?
Changes do occur naturally anyhow, but how looooooooooong do they take?
It is beyond ludicrous to compare time frames of recent Human history or periods of a few thousand years to the vast age of this planet or even the amount of time it took to bring about the geological changes listed below.
Stand on the beach shore line at Newcastle's Nobbys Headland and look at an ancient dyke(volcano vent) that travels all the way to the top and once beyond, the stratas it travels through are not only sedimentary, but coastal sedimentary, sea shell fossils etc from a once much higher shore line.
Yet if you travel out in your boat for 15 kilometers off shore from Newcastle you will sound the beginning of a deep descent known as the Continental Shelf. It was also once another of our continent's coastal shore lines. Part of an ocean floor that was once dry land. An indisputable show case of evidence, in massive vertical contrasts of historical shore line heights and positions.
So will there be change again,, dam straight there will be,
Lets face it, what every one really wants to know is, "will it bother me?" "will there be a catastrophic change in my very short remaining lifetime?"
Not bloody likely. It would be of a time frame that historically only meteor impacts have produced in relative overnight terms.

But either iether way there is still no just reason or excuse to go on poisoning our planet and air, with pollution.

Of real concern in our lifetimes will be providing for an exploding global population.

More than enough reason to clean our act up NOW, prepare and get our shit together as responsible global custodians should do anyhow.

What am I going to do about the impending doom? Enjoy my life to the fullest. Always endeavor to reduce my footprint, never litter and always recycle. Cause it makes me feel good ;D

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

Iceland and Greenland are two entirely different places, however, sa, you are right about Greenland being warmer in early Viking times. The advancing cold of the so called Mini Ice Age, circa 1300 to ????, ( the actual dates are a matter of modern conjecture, but are well known in Viking history),  drove the Vikings from Greenland. Here's a quote,

There is no consensus regarding the time when the Little Ice Age began, although a series of events preceding the known climatic minima has often been referenced. In the thirteenth century, pack ice began advancing southwards in the North Atlantic, as did glaciers in Greenland. Anecdotal evidence suggests expanding glaciers almost worldwide. Based on radiocarbon dating of roughly 150 samples of dead plant material with roots intact, collected from beneath ice caps on Baffin Island and Iceland, Miller et al. (2012) state that cold summers and ice growth began abruptly between AD 1275 and 1300, followed by "a substantial intensification" from 1430 to 1455.

The population growth does worry us and we prefer to live a relatively simple life, and cut our waste and local impact, such as we can.

I wonder how we can pump billions of tons of anything into the air and expect there to be no consequences.

Darryl mate you missed it.
Glaciers are on land and the scientists were sending drone subs under them to measure the temps. :o
First time they have done this but the temps were higher than expected. ???

Nathan is right of course but my problem is that  nobody has explained the link between what's in my wallet and saving the planet.
