1980 PE250 Con Rod
« on: July 13, 2008, 09:30:36 pm »
Sometime back when i was looking for a PE175 conrod (aftermarket) someone on this forum did a cross reference check and found that it fitted about 5 or so other models. These models were listed in the aftermarket catalogues, hence an aftermarket conrod was avalaible, even though the specific bike, in the case a 80 PE250, wasnt. Is anyone able to do this X-reference for me please?

hello bahnsy,
the guys at BBImporters cross referenced a Pro-X skidoo rod to fit my brothers 81 PE250
They don't deal direct but most shops can source them.

Hello Bahnsy,
ProX 03.6642 is the rod kit to use, '93-'97 Skidoo, but the pin is too short. You also need to buy an 06.2458 big end pin. It fits RM/PE and will fit CR250M as well. I'm sure you know a couple of shops who can get it from BBI for you.
Cheers,
K

ProX 03.6642 for the '93-'97 Skidoo

Pro X say its for a Skidoo 599 triple

i am trying to find a rod for that model here https://www.hotrodsproducts.com in Hot Rods brand

i would like to compare value/quality/price etc.

Depends on crank pin dia (or if you want an extra 1mm stroke) but a quick look shows about 5 probable with a 24mm crank pin and another 5 with a 25mm crank pin. Ithink a RD/RZ 250/350 is the rod for the 175.

is there a direct equivalent for the ProX 03.6642 for the '93-'97 Skidoo 599 triple in Hot Rods brand?

the rod that works in PE175 is the TS185 rod. use Pro X 03-3018

what are rod brands are there?

When i built the motor, we did indeed use a ProX 03.6642 rod kit however we diddn't use the pin that came with the rod kit. As mick had previously advised, we also ordered an extra (generic) 06.2458 big end pin. There was an issue in the build up of the crank and it had to do with the thrust washers as the ProX rod was wider then the Suzuki unit. I will check with the "Guru" who built the engine and find out what he used for thrust washers.
If you are starting to think that this is not worth the effort, then consider that all of this, including the labor, was cheaper than a Suzuki rod kit, that wasnt avalible anyway.
FYI, the small end pin, bearing & piston were all off the shelf Woosner oversize PE units as per the book. I went for the Woosner as it was the only piston that came with the teflon coating standard.

never said it wasnt good value, i just want to expore/compare options as i can get different brands cheaper than others and if a Hot Rod or other brand is available then maybe it might be better. I would also like to compare rod weights

i actually have a complete NOS OEM rod kit but thats for the all orginal motor. The aftermarket one is for the trick modifed motor.

Yeah the Wossners are good. Thats what im getting.
