IT175G airbox/filter

I am finding it hard to track down a good airfilter. I have a 2-stage Uni filter right now, and recently bought a TwinAir one. the TwinAir filter is the right one according to their website but will not fit, it's just too big for the cage. Neither it nor the Uni had a hole for the retaining bolt which is strange - I burned one in using a soldering iron on the Uni. I have bought another Uni but it clearly has no hole either.

Has anyone else experienced this? I checked on Partzilla and the airbox diagram looks just like mine so my airbox is a stock 175G one.  It's strange as I owned an IT back in the day and do NOT remember the airbox being so awful...

Aha!! I think I have just answered my own question! This photo from another thread shows the cage from a 125G. Now I am pretty sure the IT and YZ125 share the same airbox/filter, and the cage in this photo is way bigger than mine. Perhaps I have a cage from some other model?

Now I am confused... Here's an IT175H airbox - the cage here looks the same size as mine, yet it's clearly smaller than the one in that 125G. Anyone? US/Oceania model difference?

To my knowledge and in my experience the 80-81 yz125 and IT175 have the same filter cage and air box and lid. Except the top is cut open on the yz where the IT one is smooth and round at the twin peaks either side of the shock

according to Boats.net the YZ125 G and H are the same part number...the IT 175 H is a stand alone part number.. which is the bit that confuses me as i have IT 175 G and H and the parts to my eyes are the same

The parts listings on boats and partzilla aren't quite right, but I think the airbox/filter/cage are the same for 125G/H and IT175G/H. I am just not sure why I have a TwinAir filter for exactly those models and no way is it right for my IT175. My Uni filter is the right size but doesn't have the hole for the threaded locating rod - why on earth make a filter without the right locating hole???

The only thing I can think of re the apparent size of the filter is that for some markets the cage and element is larger (or maybe in 81 they made the part larger?). That one is larger seems to be the case looking at the pics above, but hard to be certain.

I guess I'll just try to return the TwinAir or sell it off... tho quite who'd want it I dunno.

i've been getting my filters from ini filter US for my 425 and 250 G and so far all has been well...could there be a part number differance between the US and Oceania??.........   i will need some for the 175 and 125 soonish so i'll keep an eye on this thread

I'll pull mine out tomorrow Macca and check it out. My 125G unifilter came with the bolt hole in it whereas the 250G/H filter doesn't have a hole as the cage has lugs on it on the carby side. I did notice in their catalogue pic that they have changed since I got mine and the the one in their pic hasn't got the hole

Maybe they are just lazy re the hole? That Uni one you linked to is what I have already but it's getting a bit old, so I was chasing a better one - I like the Twin Airs.

Woody, can you measure the diameter of the base of your cage? I'll compare it to mine. However if you are using the NU2247ST Uni filter, then your cage will be the same as mine as that filter fits right. The Twin Air one though is significantly bigger.  I bought a 152400 Twin Air which is correct fitment on their website for 80/81 IT and YZ.

I too had this issue as the 125G I picked up had a bastardised air filter/cage. I have since found a 1980 175G full air box from the USA & fitter that, so all good now.

As for the elements, again, same issue. I have a couple of the red/black Uni NU2247ST which fit well but also purchased the yellow/green NU 2245ST & its way too bulky to use in the air box, so will not get another one of them. The outer section is the problem so I am going to use the inner first layer only & make another outer section as per the 2247ST.

That airbox is a shocker! Well, I'll just have to stick with the Uni 2247ST and make my own hole I guess. No idea what this Twin Air filter actually fits though - it's not just that it's bulky but the opening is simply too wide - the sealing foam won't actually sit under the cage! Says 80/81 IT175 on the bag though, so go figure.

Suzuki drz400 air filters fit and quite easy get in different brands ,not sure off year just went looking for similar shaped air filters and it worked for us currently on a g and h.175.ELC hunter

Yes I have used filters out of my 98yz250 and my old wr426 in 175G they fit the frame well and seal tight, a little tricky to feed in through the little side hole though.

Yes, I've got the NU2247ST Uni filter. It fits ok but it's very large for the tight fitting airbox as you can see below. I prefer Twin Air but can't find one for the 125/175G/H in their application chart, where'd you get that one Macca? I might try the Twin Air for the DRZ400, I'm sure you could get them at CMC for $30

diameter of bottom of the cahe is 15cm approx
