I am interested to know why? Too much of a head fork :-\ ,Are us VMX'ers too hard to deal with? Enough work to do on moderns etc?
I have never used them, just wondered why :)

I have used RAD before but Im now in hurry to fix shock before Masters Games so with work commitments i was hoping locally would be a good source.

I have heard mixed reports about MPE...

Thanks

Gday Tim, Try Andy Thomason at ATR, 0428 989 359 he's based at Morayfield - often see him at bigger QVMX events like Conondale Classic working on Glen Bell etc bikes. He's from MPE and doesn't mind working on vintage suspension. Anyway good luck - see you at Masters

Not sure if he still does suspension work but heaven racer  Dave  "Middo" Middleton used to do mine when I lived in Sydney and his work and price points were excellent.

Suspension Matters would be my recommendation in Qld.
Dave helped me set up the forks on my YZ200, and they're the best forks I've ever ridden on.

But it's a mono tube shock - they're not rocket science. If anyone thinks it's too hard to fit a new seal and some clean oil to one, then they aren't a suspension specialist's bum-hole.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

I've done a few of these myself.
They're easy enough to do but if they are too worn out there's not much you can do with them.
You can still get the seal heads and bump stops to suit but the shock piston band usually is stuffed.
This is a part that they don't make a replacement for. You may be lucky if yours is still ok.
You can put a gold valve or ohlins piston in it if you want to use it long term.
Also being an alloy body the shock oil gets contaminated pretty quickly. :o
All being said I don't think they are a bad shock for OEM.

And therein lies the problem Kev. Fast guys like them know that suspension is the major key to riding fast. Knowing this they will source the best product regardless of price. Unfortunately when the average VMXer gets told by a competent suspension technician that their suspension upgrade is worth more than they have invested in their whole bike they carry on about getting ripped off, citing they can get new shocks off EBay ....blah blah. Where I live there was four specialist  specialist suspension shops. Two that did vintage have closed down, one refuses to touch vintage and the other one, well good luck with them.

Example 1:
Customer: I want the same suspension as Bill
Shop: No problem
Customer: How much?
Shop: ?XXXX
Customer: the whole bike didn't cost me that much. Are you serious?
Shop. Yes. You said you want the same
Customer: Can't you do it cheaper?
Shop: No
Customer: Well can't you do it nearly the same and cut the cost?
Shop: No. It won't work properly
Customer: what do you mean it won't work properly? Do you know what you are doing?
Shop: Absolutely.
Customer: Rants Raves blah blah. Half hour has gone by and customer hangs up with the shits.

Example2:
Customer: Do you have fork springs for a 72 blah blah
Shop: No but I can get some made
Customer: How much?
Shop: ?XXX
Customer: When?
Shop: Allow four weeks
Customer: Ok. Order them, I'll be in next week to fix you up
Shop: no problem. I'll order them now.
Customer: Rings every day with " my mate reckons them springs will be weighted wrong, blah blah"
Shop: Who's doing the job, me or your mate?
Customer: You are.
Shop: ok well let me do it
Customer: Rings every day
Shop: I told you four weeks
Customer: Blah blah. Another half hour wasted.

Four weeks comes and customer has not been sighted. Shop stuck with order. This has happened on numerous occasions. This is why some won't touch vintage.
