Don't know if anyone cares, but I had a look at my clutch today.
About half the plates are fine. The other half have had the friction material ripped from them - the previous toasted clutches I've seen have simply burned the friction material - they wore pretty much evenly and the gearbox oil turned into a black paste. Mine had big black chunks of clutch material through the oil.

The smell is weird - its got that sort of pleasant smell of a bonfire, but it also smells like someone has put a plastic bag on the bonfire... Not the usual burnt clutch smell.

do you think it was a case of a dud batch of plates or the toture they went through

sounds like the bonding material has let go, fried clutches usually have smooth faces on the plates..bummer, check for warranty
