Not necessarily as long as you are able to deal with some limitations.

I had an IT250K that I rode in pre 85 class at VIPER, used for vinduro and also had rec registered and rode in a couple of Blue Light Rallies plus general trail riding. It had a compliance plate so I could have got full rego if I'd been so inclined.

My 77 CR Husky 360 is probably my most versatile bike. Being reed vavle makes Vinduro a bit easier.

I think I will try my GS250 81 reed Maico at the next Vinduro. Ratios are not that wide, certainly Motocrossessss well and is certainly no slouch.
Or maybe an earlier GS400(reach the ground when off-camber).

For a four stroker, I can see why mr Ballard loved and enduroed the 84 XR500, I keep wondering where I could cut 20Kgs from it I wonder how the XR350's are?

The idea of an alllrounder certainly appeals.

Yeah thats true, i guess in my mind im comparing enduro bikes with motocrossers, not fair comparisons. I'm kinda liking the idea of a Euro though.

How about a 74 MT250 Rookie? Can be ridden in pre75 and pre78. Low seat height, good useable power and road registerable. I can offer you mine for good money. PM me if you are interested. CR250M top end, CR ignition, CR fork internals, YSS shocks, CR alloy tank, CR swing arm, CR seat, 76 CR airbox and carbie, CR side covers modified to fit like the factory would have done, Alloy wheels, NOS DG up pipe, Renthal bars and 77 IT yamaha lights front and back. Lights are easily removed for MX. Widened footpegs. One of a kind, totally rebuilt from the ground up, that is pretty easy to get parts for if you ever need them.

TBM i've seen this bike and very much liked it when it was listed on ebay, if nothing Euro and satisfactory pops up in the near future we may have to chat further bout this lil ripper

the MT cannot be used for pre 78...(motocross)...at least not at a national level anyway.... pre 78 is for the 75/76/77 model bikes only...

Great bikes yes, although what a lot are neglecting to consider is that MUST be a registered or registrable bike...

Yeah that was what I was considering, a bike I could ride straight from the shed to the bush or track, no trailer etc, and for me would be the close to riding a yz250

    I would look at the   360 / 390 Husky first then work down hill from there

BSA Gold Stars were used successfully for street, ISDT, scrambles, observed trials, flat track and road racing.  I've got a friend who does VRR with a trick GS and it sounds like competition-quality replacement parts availability is not a problem, as long as you can afford them.

Plus the GS is likely to increase in value!
