Looking for a YZ125E CDI and coil.... anybody??
« on: March 10, 2014, 09:13:31 PM »
Hi Guys
Looking for a CDI unit for a YZ125e and a coil to hopefully solve my electrical issues on my little girl..  The coil is completely rooted because I was a bit too heavy handed testing the cable for breaks where it connects into the body of the unit. DUOH!!

Any help with where to start looking for a new CDI and coil would be appreciated.

Regards

Is it way too small? A bit of work with the heat gun or hot water could soften it enough to fit if it's close. Maybe some rubber friendly grease as well.

Any similar-era Yamaha 2T dirt bike coil will work perfectly, if that's any help.

Thanks Nathan, I had heard that. I might see if Yamaha has any NOS left.. (read: lazy)

There seems to be quite a bit on the US Ebay site, timing being the biggest drama. ie: getting it together for the next race in a fortnight.

SLAWESY,

Dig away at the plastic & resolder.

As for the CDI unit they were used on a few different models. 100's, 125's & 250's

There are two different CDI coils (500 & 100 ohm) again used on many different models. Or are you talking about the spark plug coil? If that is the case just about any YZ coil from 80cc to 250cc from 77 to 84 (Not big bore, they used flywheels so CDI different but will work in a pinch) will work. There is slight variations in some model but overall will work & do no harm.

I don't know if I have spares to sell but will lend you the parts to get you going, prove the fault & buy time till you can get replacements. (If Rookie can't help out.)

Just for others who may need these parts you can find the stator coils here. I have some but not installed (yet) and they look ok.
