Original Profab Triple Clamps

I have been offered a set of original 1970's profab triples for my husky. As with all things they come with a price but Im not sure what there worth ( I think the price is top dollar). They are in good condition and just need a clean up, they will also be shipped from the US so I have to take that into account too. What are peoples thoughts on price?

$500 USD + delivery which i am estimating at $30-50.

I paid somewhere between $250 and $300 for mine less than a year ago. They are original ProFabs but there are both cast and billet 'replicas' available which I think aren't as desirable as the originals. They're cool acessories and you rarely see them come up so I reckon it comes down to how bad you really want them and what your 'silly money' limit is .                                                                               
                                                                                   

I've since put in a lot of work into mine to adapt them to my Hindall frame using tapered roller bearings, adding a couple of hundred bucks to the cost.

I thought they seemed a bit pricey! I might hang for a reasonably priced set. I would settle for replicas, I don't want billet clamps though!

And therin lies your next dilemna......It might be another three years before you see them again, if ever. It's weird, Jonesy and I both bought sets in the same month but neither of us have seen them come up again. Perhaps $500 is the going price these days. Sometimes you need to just dive in and go for it.

Question:
Are these profab triples from aluminium or magnesium ?
If they are alluminium, are they lighter than the original steel parts or just stiffer ?
Sometimes the benefit of aluminium parts are just in our minds ....

I've since found they are missing the head stem nut. Wondering if the original husky one will fit??? The seller is away for a few weeks so I have time to decide!

Good question Marcus....my particular pair are magnesium but my friend has two set of aluminium ones...36mm and 38 mm and there doesn't seem to be much difference. I'm going to a BBQ at his house on Monday so I'll take mine with me and weigh them all on his accurate lab scales. They're made to replace the flimsy pressed tin early Husky triples, supposedly to save weight and add some rigidity. I personally think it's all bullshit, I'm just using them because they're cool....no other reason .

Kenny, because I've adapted a Betor stem to mine I've got a spare ProFab stem nut that you can have for nothing. All I have to do is find the bloody thing . My mate Jonesy's done the same mod as I did with his so he's probably got a spare as well. Hang in there....you'll be looked after.
