Alex wants $5250 for the Maico
What a load of shit >:( >:....he should be made to sell it for the advertised price. It's a 4k bike BUT it's a limited market, how many folks have a square barrel Maico on their must have list? Keep at him for the 3.5k price, he might weaken at the sight of a hand full of gorillas.

Not my style Firko. That's the best part of $2k difference and if he has already come down from around the $6k mark then he's not going to go much lower you would think.  In fact it was him that called me back to tell me about the price error and that I should save myself running around.

All good though, thanks for everyone's help  :)

Lol, yeah thanks John .. can always count on your support mate  ;D

I think the bike is okay just a few issues like the jump in price and the fact it's been 'rebuilt' a few years back but not raced so it's probably not close to race ready.  At $3500 it was probably worth the punt re eligibility and knowing that I would have to spend $$ to get it right for racing but at the end of the day I'll let someone else have the joy :)

The first run were numbered in the lower 200,, that is; "T4022**
By the time the second run were produced they had started stamping the serial numbers on the right hand engine case
right above the counter sprocket, the numbers were still "T402" but had now jumped to the six hundreds,, that is "T4026**
Mick Hockley told a friend of mine that he had bought one bike complete and virtually pieced together the second one himself,, I don't know which was which,, but given the 350cc engines were freely available separately at the time?
I see the pic of that bike shows a decompressor lever on the bars, so if it has a valve on the rear of the cylinder it has to be a 350(345)
The top of the cylinder will have 350cc stamped on it

.he thinks the engine number is   I  which is probably a    t    391341
For what its worth one of my 350's has the # T4026** but the other one is a really early # T3850**. 4026 is a 1970 model so it's safe to assume the 385 engine is a 1969....it should be in a wide frame but somewhere along the way it received a narrow frame. I'm still waiting for info on the ex Hockley bikes.....purely for general information now that Simo's out of the game.

Okay so I've spoken to Alex again and he reckons that Steve New identified it as pre 70 model due to the clutch being located under the engine.
That is a good check for Scrutineers to identify Square Barrel frames.

1969 360

To say the least,,,,I think the fact that Firko still has one of these Squarey machines that he purchased new and has been around their origin and race use since the beginning,,,is a valuble asset 8)

At the shinnyness advertised $3,500,, I would purchase,, if I didn't already have one.
But to type it up and advertise at $3,500,,,then jack it up to $5,250 upon phone contact,,what a dick >:(
And we thought our Dave had played every tactic in the book,,,
Daves got nothin on this bloke.

To be honest Mick, the seller Alex sounded like a pretty straight shooter to me.  If he had previously advertised the bike at $5900 then his new price of $5250 makes a lot more sense than $3500 as that is a massive drop.

I'm disappointed but that's the way it goes.  I'm sure there is a buyer out there with more $$ than me just busting to get this bike.  I just wanted a competitive and class legal, pre 70 race bike.

And on the Dave thing, during the course of our conversations he stated he knew Dave Alsop quite well as they both come from down Geelong/Corio way ... but I won't say any more on that  ;)  ;D

That may well be true Simmo,,,,hard to comprehend the arrival at such a large mistake though :o

I love the look of this one done by US's Maico Miester

Anyhow Simo, at least now without a Maico Squarie you wont have to carry around a big stick to beat off the distractions

I been thinking that $5k for a potential class winning bike in good condition is not that bad a price anyway. What other motor sport can you get to the pointy end for that value. I accept the politics behind the price change but it may also be a typo mistake, sometimes I think that there is a tendency to cut of your nose to spite your face.
If in doubt ,WIND IT OUT

Simo, go down to your bike shop and order a Maico, you wont, as you know they don't make them any more, But if you buy Alex bike, you will end up with or pre 70 bike that you have been looking for. Alex is a good fellow and can be fare, and Just bikes made the error, that's why the price was changed.
