AW 400 clutch questions. Help needed!!
« on: September 20, 2013, 10:04:43 pm »
Just about to assble the clutch on my 77 AW 400, do the cup washers go in packs of 2 or packs of 4? eg. 10 x 2 or 5 x 4? That make sense?? also, do I run 7 steel plates or 6? If 7 where does it go?? first time putting a Maico engine together!! Thanks

The cupped washers go in 5 packs of 4 like this  (( ))
You can run the extra steel in the middle of the pack with another steel, it preloads the plates more for less chance of the clutch slipping.
Wouldn't hurt to get a workshop manual..

Cheers mate, all sorted. Got it all together, and now the kickstart won't return. FFS, I will have to pull it apart again and put another turn on the spring, Guessing that is what as needed as I put it in with little tension on it and it won't ratchet back

If it happens again with engine in chassis, it may be "tip to tip". Meaning the kick gear meshed with primary gear and jammed.  Put trans in 3rd and rock, frees it up
