Info on new CR480 rod kit
« on: July 15, 2013, 06:00:33 pm »
A mate of mine is chasing a new rod kit for a 83 CR480 , any info where to get one will be tops.
I don't know if the 82 CR480 is the same or even the 84 CR500.
someone with a Honda zedder disc may know.
Thanks mick

Me thinks 82 and 83 same...NLA, 84 500 available but longer, by about 12mm I think.
I have been down the road of fitting a 84 rod to an 82 with spacer under bottom of cylinder, only to find exhaust port was raised to high and was half blocked off by frame main front down tube. I should have taken $750 out into the back yard and burnt it, would have saved me two months of flucking as I ended up reusing the old rod....

Kevin is great good guy and will go out of his way to help as he is a vintage racer himself. He has raced CRR & VMX on Bultaco for many years. He has contacts with Italkit and has obtained parts from them in a few days for me in the past. Highly recommended.

Another place to try would be trimac in Auckland, they've been making billet rods for various bikes for a while. Their work has been pointed out on here a few times, pretty sure they've sold both on trademe & ebay
Have a look at the video in about us, a billet Norton commando crankcase  :o
