Finally home long enough to get some work done. Finished welding all the frame mods, made the rear dirt shield, fitted the mounting brackets for the dirt shield and side number plates, fitted the steering stop and gusseted the steering head. Cut all the unused brackets off (side stand, centre stand, footrests etc.).

Looks a bit different to the standard frame...

Waiting for my brother to get home from Dubai to help me with the pipe design, so in the meantime I'll mock the bike back up in readiness. Might take the opportunity to paint the tank and seat and at least get that out of the way.

Dubai?? You buggers sure get around Pete ;D Do you have family get togethers around the table comparing frequent flyer points :). I hope you're still in town at Easter so you and the RD (and IZ465 &Astro) can join AJ and I at Broadford.

Added some stiffening into the swingarm so she doesn't flex under all that power,

Welded a couple of brackets on in anticipation of the dreaded rear chain guard rule,

The exhaust flanges will be the next things to get fabricated and then the pipes. Once that's done it's really just plating, painting, powdercoating and assembling.

Nice work Pete. ( Put a bracket on there I hear you will soon have to cover rear wheels in case your fingers go in)

Made up the left hand footrest bracket ready to be welded in place

Apologies for the tidbits, sometimes big things get done, other times small things...

couldn't help but notice the motor might need some attention... is there a plan for that?

Sorry John, I wasn't real clear there. The motor is just in the bike now to mock everything up. Once that's all finished it'll get new seals, bearings, gaskets, rings, gudgeons, little ends etc. The motor is grubby on the outside but is in very good shape internally. In addition to the rebuild I'll dowell the heads so I can set up the squish correctly, re-angle the transfer ports, space the reed blocks so the booster port gets a chance to work properly and bore the carbies out a little bigger. I'll fatten the mixture a little on the midrange to soften the hit and I've got a PVL ignition coming to look after the spark (which has blown the budget out to over $1100). When I pull the engine down I'll soda blast the cases and then either paint or polish them - still deciding on that one.

Got the lefthand footrest mounted and made a short gearlever. I'm going to drill the clutch cover out for right hand gearchange option which I'll use depending on the track.

I'm using Harley footpegs so I'm hoping a little bit of that XR750 pedigree will rub off ;D

Looking good my friend. I dig the Harley pegs, I've got Bates Harley pegs on the 360 tracker myself. I've made a tiny start on the 750 and will probably blog the build on my facebook page with an occasional update here once I get into it properly next week. I'm really looking forward to the project. AJ's back into his tracker project too so it's looking good for Broadford ...touch wood :-\.

Good stuff Mark, can't wait to see that. All I have to do is keep in Australia for a while and I'll be OK for Broadford as well.

Couldn't do much outside today because of the rain so spent a bit of time measuring the port durations and exhaust port size for the pipe design,

Also machined up some aluminium washers for the number plates and cut the number plates themselves out of some lexan. Good to get some of the little jobs out of the way.

Checked the chain alignment and it was a little to one side so machined a spacer up to got behind the countershaft sprocket. The original RD sprockets are 530 and as I'm now using 520 sprockets there was a little bit of room for adjustment and luckily it worked out nicely.
