Bultaco Astro 1972, graphics and leathers design by Royal Sherbet and rider Mike Kidd to run AMA flattrack. Kenny Roberts 1975, Tz750 champion frame shadow block or strobe block graphics ( bumble bee)designed and painted by Mike Viss. The Bultaco and Yamaha designs share little in my opinion.
Who was first and who's telling porkies, looks pretty net though
With respect, the '72 Astro used standard Pursang graphics, I think the Sherbet/Kidd graphics came later on the the 74-79 Astro . Mike Viss may have painted the graphics on Kenny's Indy Mile TZ750 but the Yellow/bumble bee design had been in use long before that.

Finished the baffle cones and mufflers and welded them all together. Just need to make the two mounting brackets and then start on the right hand side footrest and brake pedal.

Finished the right hand side footrest bracket and rear brake pedal. The bracket also has the mount for the rhs exhaust.

It's now ready to be pulled to bits for the powder coating, painting and zinc plating. While that's going on the fork dampers can be shortened and a lug welded on for the brake backing plate and the engine can be rebuilt.

Yeah Mick, all those little brackets and bibs and bobs are what takes all the time, and there doesn't seem to be anything to show for the effort. I've just spent the last few hours making up the rear brake torque arm and mounting boss, including machining up a nyloil bush. Time cosuming, but has to be done. Luckily, all those little pieces are now finished, so it's plain sailing from here, I hope.
Won't be powdercoating the frame, just all the little brackets etc.

The weather's no good for painting so the forks got the attention. Shortened 60mm, cut the old caliper bracket off, welded on the lug for the brake backing plate. stripped the black paint and buffed the forks and triple trees. New seals and oil - ready to go. Left the mudguard brackets there in case a fork brace is required.

Got a bit of a break in the weather so the frame got painted. The conditions were not ideal but time is running out so it had to be done today

In between coats the engine got stripped and I started to clean the cases up. Don't know what sort of chain lube the previous owner used but it took some getting off.

I'll start zinc plating the nuts and bolts tonight so the motor can go back together.

Got some of the frame loosely assembled last night.

Tonight the bottom end of the motor can go together and tomorrow afternoon I will start on the tank and seat. Already have the white base painted on, just need to let it dry thoroughly before the masking starts.

Got the tank and seat painted last night. Just need to make and apply the stickers and then apply a coat of clear. The blue is actually a lot darker than it looks in the photo - photography is certainly not a strong point for me. Not too sure if I like the design or not, have to see what it's like all together.

The bottom end of the engine is all assembled, just need to paint the heads and barrels and hone the bores and it can all go back together. Not too much going to happen for the rest of this week as we're off to NZ tomorrow for the first round of the SGP - can't wait.
