Bultaco front bake orient attain

Is it just me or has anybody wondered why Bultaco chose to activate the front brake from the the throttle side. It makes for a tight radius on the poor old brake cable as well as compromised cable routing. I'm thinking of reversing the hub to achieve a less torturous path for the cable. Any thoughts! J

Reverse it if you can. I could never see any redeeming reason for the throttle side brake plate arrangement.

   Hey jerry ! ive been looking at that brake setup for a while ,there was a US import 125 pursang on ebay a while back that had the mod .the only thing i can see is the  brake the backing plate would be pushing the brake stay instead of pulling against it - maybe a steel or thicker alloy stay would be peace of mind ,would probably give better feel at the lever

interesting!,Brads (090) ossa phantom has f/brake swapped to l/h side,i remarked about this to Brad,"thats how it was/came to me,& it works spoton" ,i could never get the small brake to work,maybe thats why it's moved over to the l/h side,the only diff is the fork oil drain plugs are forward,(forks are swapped over too),still having cafeeine hit so not sure about leading/trailing brake shoe operation atm ,

Yep..we do the same with a Husky...swap the brake onto the left side....as stated above..makes for a much more gentle arc on the cable...easy on a HVA as both legs are cast the same.....I think the works guys did it also back in the 70's....

If you swap the brake to the other side wouldn't that reverse the braking action and make the bike accelerate instead?

Thanks guys you've suitably armed me with an inappropriate level of over confidence. I will send photos if it works (from home) or hospital if it does'nt. Come to think of it its not possible for the brakes to be even worse than before! J
