 My ex road race Appendix J 1956 FJ and my mate Bills similar 48-215 photographed still in road race trim in 1969. The FJ had a very quick 3 1/4" bore grey motor and triple Strombergs when I got it but I soon fitted a 186 bored to 192  with triple 2" SUs from a Jag, Wilkinson 12 port head, McGee 40/80 cam Chevy roller rockers, Jaguar Moss 4 speed, Ford Zephyr diff and lots more. The car went through a lot of different engine/trans combinations and in the end was used almost exclusively for drag racing with a 212 stroker, MGB gearbox (don't laugh, they were as strong as shit with the old school spinning tyre launches but they'd break like plastic with todays super traction). I eventually got the car into the 13's which was pretty stout for a road registered six in 1971, it'd still be pretty impressive today. The last I heard (5 years ago) the car still existed with an EFI 202 and Trimatic in Townsville, Qld

The 186 was a good motor,years ago a mate had one coupled up to a 5speed supra box in a Vauxhall Victor ::)to cut a long stry short the thing flew and was still ecomomical.

I agree Mark! I hate the trendies big dia. thin rims that would look the part on a dray!

 The series 3 RX7 I had was 100% original, but I have seen some that to me have been ruined by 'cart wheels'

The big problem with keeping existing rims is getting tyres to fit.
The front tyres on the HQ are Firestone, had to be imported from the good old US of A.
Not available in Aus.

I just bought some Sumitomo white walls from a local dealer here in brissie $110 each for 185/80/13 includes fitting and balancing for my hr sedan I just bought last Wednesday.Not a bad price considering some places up here selling the same tyre for $160 per tyre plus fitting and balancing.My corolla got reversed into by one of our trucks at work ,got paid out by insurance and bought the hr I'l get some photo's and throw them up when it stops raining up here.Cheers.

It doesn't seem that long ago that 13" and 14" were considered normal. I remember when I put 16" AMG wheels on my Falcon XF ute people telling my the big diameter wheels with 45 series tyres would totally wreck my handling and steering geometry. None of then of course realised at the time that anything bigger than the standard 14 inchers is an improvement to the XF Falcon, being such a shitty handler in the first place. Now 16s are considered old school. I had a bit of trouble finding 255 x 15 tyres for the 8" Minilite wheels on my Jag but found Falken Ziex S/TZ04 high performance tyres and they're brilliant.

There's a bloke selling 13" standard early holden rims on ebay 13x6 and 13x7 no tyres just cleaned up and painted $795 a set and for standard 13x4.5 painted white $395 a set.Yet the same bloke has a fully polished set of ansen(us racer type) 13x7 for $895 don't know how he works his prices out as the ansens should be worth 3 times what the stockers are worth.

don't know how he works his prices out as the ansens should be worth 3 times what the stockers are worth.

In the classic car world good stock components (i.e. rim) can fetch far higher prices that the trick arftermarket parts.  A few years a go I paid quite a bit to get a spare rim for my 1964 Honda S600. I also paid $175 to get a dent removed and rechrome one of the hub caps as replacement one are ridiculously expensive if you can find them. I ended up having to fit 155 radials as none of the local tyre places could source a set of 145's for me.

Nice ute Chippy, I had a couple like that back in the day. Looks like someone went to a bit of trouble to fit HJ guard flutes to HQ guards.

Yep standard stuff is dear my hr has got hustlers on it seen a couple of sets on ebay up around $700 to $900.Very nice ute not much trouble doing the flutes as they can be stamped into the guards now,you can put any flutes in any guards now as long as the guards are good bog free ones.cheers.
Got my white walls fitted today also considering a mesh visor, just need the rain to stop for some photo's.

Walk into Bob Jane and get a price on the std rims, can be cheap as.. I got some for the HK, 60 bucks ea 14x 7's

Cheapest I could find hr rims were 13x4.5 standard size and were torana style and there $85 per rim.Anything 13x7 for early holden dear as poison.Probably could get 14" cheaper but 14" on hd-hr look shite.HK-T-G are the same stud pattern as HR and the 14" are more popular as they still manufactor them for trailers most trailer places sell them for around $40 a rim.
