Old school that is 100% spot on and way cool.- dont change any thing.
When i work out how to post photos will put up my HT ute,Jimy Richards 350 bathurst Monaro i owned,a Gazelle (V8 capri) and my old faithfull 66 stang in the garage now.


I thought the v8 capri was a Perana?? or is that seth aafreecan for gazelle?
Never knew Perana was gazelle in Afrikaans

Klub Kevlar mate Bill Woods owns this all steel 32 Ford 5 window coupe. The car has been a hot rod longer than it was a stocker, being originally hot rodded in the late 40's in Los Angeles. Bill's owned it here in Oz since 1980. The old girls had a few different looks over the years but the current black and flames has been on it for 20 years. The 350/350/9" combo has been in  it for thirty years. I can remember riding around town in the dicky seat back in the early 80's but the thought police have since banned such frivolity ::). Bill's soon to start on a 73 Yamaha MX250.

Thanx for the comments everyone.Only other thing to do is get some decent gas shocks to stiffen it up a bit.It looked like a 4 wheel drive when I got it and drove like a bag of shite.Needed a wheel align badly took it for rego the day after I picked it up the bloke passed it but said it needed an outer right tie rod end and right wheel bearing.I put it in got it lowered tie rod end and bearing done wheel align drove perfectly.Then got the white walls fitted put 1.5"lowering blocks in the back and fitted my old stereo from my corolla with a few added extras like 340w kenwood monoblock amp(wich is a one channel amp) and a 1000w 12" sony sub in the boot.Sub and amp will never have doof doof through them though being an old punk only heavy stuff ;D .Cheers.That 2 door ford and the rods are great,we have a couple of places up here in brisvagas one on a friday night at acacia ridge its a shopping centre car park they also have a couple of take away places and they have a weekly car meet,all oldskool stuff hot rods etc, one on a saturday night at browns plains called kosmos kitchen same sort of thing no burnouts or stupid shite is tolerated and the police don't seem to mind they don't come in defecting cars they often drive through make sure everyone is behaving and usually stop for a chat.

you are right Porana not gazelle,I bought it off a Yapi over here,drove it around the South island when i came out of my apprenticeship and sold as i could not afford to run it and bought a 1600 escort,in hindsight we could have all kept  some of our bikes or cars had we only known.

Unfortunately and (good for them) there are people who keep all their stuff!

They a re a weapon allright but just never got the proper sort out to get them in the Bathurst lineup here so they are a much underated car in aus. they were great with the V6, they must be stunning with a hot 302 in front.

Andrew Miedecke's son overshot  a turn a couple of years ago in the Targa Tassie and put the thing(V8 capri-perana) in a river,from memory there was also another car in there,but his was all recorded for tv.
Bultaco Metralla, Matador MK 5, Montadero mk2, El Bandido model 18,plus lots of bits and two Honda XR's 250,350.

Back in the seventies a friend worked for a company that imported US muscle cars and converted them from left to right steering. They'd imported a rare as shit Cologne Capri RS from NZ which had the go fast quad cam V6 and all of the Euro racing homologation stuff. It was a very, very cool car, the only one I've ever seen to this day. A couple of months went by before I dropped into the shop again to find that Graeme my mate had taken the rare as shit Weslake Essex V6 out and replaced it with a 302 Windsor V8. Even though I was essentially an American V8 kind of guy, I felt sick to the stomach to see what he'd done to such a classic car. Even though the 302 had 48CDOE Webers and a lot of performance mods, the car devalued by half in my mind. I moved overseas soon after so I don't know what ever happened to the car nor do I recall what happened to the original engine.   Below: a Cologne Capri identical to the one I describe.

what a shame.... still, its probably in some smart bastards shed being returned to v6 standards...its amazing the knowledge these guys have of 30 y/o racing cars.

A mate got offered an open wheeler "in a box" years ago and after some humming and hahing he went for a look.

"the old man' had croaked and the daughter was cleaning up. HSe rang some ol mate of the old mans who rang my mate.

on inspection, it was a late 60's Lola open wheeler with a 5 litre chev. everything in bits.

some research showed only 1 of these cars was imported to aus but that car was racing and lived in Sydney??

more research in England turned up that two cars, consecutively numbered, had come in to the country but a paperwork error by the import customs in the numbers had effectively "vanished" the  other car.

While it was known in the 60's, the old guy had bought it after it had stopped being competitive and pulled it to bits where it then sat till a couple of years ago.

The level of detail in that old small block chev was outstanding. small wire screens braised over every oil drain hole shiny polished crank, stunning port work and a cam shaft you could bore holes in wood with.. its a stunning race car....

As nothing much has happened here for a while i thought id fire it up again with a look at the latest addition to the shed, a VERY pink62 Tbird!! This one popped up a few months ago and the old man could't help himself, yeah i know its VERY pink but at about the price of a good Mega2 it simply couldn't be passed up! It's on holiday at my place for a while as the old man is having some "storage issues" that generally will pop up when ya like to have more cars than most have cups ;D Its a 390 out to 411, electric everything (and it all works) and drives surprisingly well....Not one to drive if ya the shy type who doesn't cope with attention ::) Did i mention it was PINK!!!! ;D ;D

Whilst that is a bit of a shame, Basil Green did the same thing in South Africa back in the day calling it the Perana which apparently was a Lee Iacocca favourite

Former flatmate had 1 of the south African v8 capris, had a lot of trouble getting rid of it as most people assumed it was a homebuild, being left hand drive probably didn't help either. I remember it as having quite decent sized rear wheel flares & full body kit, would have been not too bad a looker with a decent paint job

Pretty sure it wasn't, can't explain the steering wheel on the wrong side of the car though
1 of dad's friends had an Alfa gtv that was from a shipment diverted from South Africa when the sanctions started, had the speedo from memory in the middle of the dash as the rev counter was more important for it's intended use. Heard just how big a money pit Italian cars could be with that thing & just how out there some of their engineering could be

Was just going to write the same. No Peranas were LHD. Also the only quad cammed Capri was the Cosworth engined race car, which Allan Moffat raced one. They were very loosely based on the 1974 RS3100. The Weslake heads were on the RS2600 which were pushrod 2 valve.
I love Capris.
