Shock seal dimensions?
« on: February 04, 2013, 06:58:03 pm »
Anyone got a list/link to the dimensions of shock (not fork) seals?

I'm after 14x46xwhatever and 14x40xwhatever.

Surely the seal isn't 46mm od? That would be the body id wouldn't it?

Yes and yes - I'm actually talking about the seal head, 'cause I hoped that would be less confusing... :-\

Johnny - the 93-99 KX250's have an 16mm ID and 46mm OD shock seal.

Pretty sure the KX500's from 1986 - 1996ish also have the same size.

Earlier KX's (1983-1984) have 16x40mm.

Not really sure if that helps Nath... but I found a lot of useful info at: http://teknikmotorsport.com

Then click on "Find Parts For Your Bike"

The seal od isn't 46mm that's the seal head. I have a seal for a 85 kx125 in my hand right now and it measures  14 x 25 x 5

As per Hardo's post, Teknik  ph no. 02 47322626. Part no. 22-501 is 46x14x26.5, 22-502 is 40x14x26.5, 22-505 is 40x14x24.5, 22-507 is 40x14x21.5. Hope that is some help. Shock treatment also have a range of seal heads, Jan is a wealth of knowledge and very helpful.

You're obviously confused between a rubber seal and an alloy seal head which contains the seal.
Sweet dreams...

OMG... If you understood terminology champ, you would know that a "seal" isn't necessarily just an O'ring...

See how you go buying that "46mm O'ring" ...  :D

a seal head has two seals doesn't it  ::) one seals the shaft to the sealhead body  , 14 ,16 or 18 ... shaft and the other seals the sealhead body to the shock body ,40,44,46 50mm are the common sizes . Jeeeezzzzz its not rocket  science  ::)

Hey matey the 46mm part is a seal head not a seal, you can buy just the seal and install it in the seal head on most shocks.. Do I have to take a photo of the seal I have here? Ring Jan at shock treatment and she'll explain it for you

No motomaniac is sure isn't rocket science....

Of course... you're going to go to all the bother of disassembling your shock to only replace the lower seal on the seal assy.... LOL

please....

Brent the seal head has a oil seal on the inside and an o ring around the outside, you can buy both for most shocks for about $15 or the complete seal head
