Splitting late model yz250 crankcase
« on: January 17, 2013, 04:44:14 pm »
Has anybody rebuilt a late model 2011 yz 250 2 stroke bottom end? Do you need a puller to separate the cases or are they like my 77 model and come apart easy. Any help appreciated
Thanks Scott

THey will come apart relatively easily. i always use a crankcase separating tool, obtainable from any decent bike shop (who can get them from MCS, amongst others) and come with a variety of attachments to suit many different bikes. i have seen many a crank damaged by using the old copper hammer trick, it just is not the correct way to do it, even though in a pinch if you are VERY CAREFUL you can do it this way.

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

100% agreed. I used to do the caveman method (as many have before me on lots of bikes I have worked on   :-\ ) until I bought a case splitter and Crank puller from Tusk.
Do a search for Tusk Crank puller and case splitter on ebay. Spend the dollars now and never look back.  :)

i use a crank case puller to the only way to ,go saves damaging the crank and the cases i also use crankshaft installer on two strokes you should never hit crankshafts
