The Rising Sun, Nisshoki, fuel tank is on a long term bobber project that is being built from a combination of TT500, SR500 and various other Yamaha bits.

Here are a few shots of the fuel tank;

In my limited understanding of Japanese, Hinomaru is the Japanese National flag, and Nisshoki was the Japanese Naval Ensign as used during WW2.

The calligraphy are the Kanji characters for Jinrai (Thunder God / Thunder Clap), which will be the name of the bike when it is finished.

Yeah I couldn't remember Nisshoki off the top of my head but that is correct. I take it you are going full Bozo style and will ride about at 10,000 rpm with open pipe riding the clutch and blipping the throttle ;D

The engine has been bored and stroked to 600cc, so revs much above about 6500rpm will probably make a lot of noise as the conrod exits through bottom of the cases!

It's a 1975 TL250, I bought it last year to make my solo trails come back (I have mainly ridden trials sidecars since 1979) riding in the Post Classic class, but injuries stopped me from riding any events. I will be having another try this season.

I have three TL125 hidden further back in the shed. Two 1976 TL125S's, one original in good running condition and one wreck, plus a wreck of a 1974 model. I intend to make a sleeper out of one of the wrecks as I have an XR200 and a CT185 engines on the shelf and want to one day see if I can build a larger capacity bitsa with these parts.
