YZ250H / 465H Fork Id
« on: January 04, 2013, 10:03:23 am »
Guys,
I'm on the look out for set of forks for my 250H. I actually only need one inner tube but was wondering how you would actually tell the diff between IT and YZ 250/465 (and other models with 43mm and angled brake lug) complete forks of the same era.
I want to make sure that I get the right set.
cheers
Woody

Woody, why are you looking for it, pitted or bent tube?

Any Yamaha 43mm forks with angled lug will be right. IT's had 38mm. Later model had 90 degree lug and axle mounts are embossed on.

as said, the 81-82 IT 250's and 465's had 38mm forks. you'll need to find a 1981 YZ250-465 H fork sanction to get a 43mm angled brake stay.

I'm a bit rusty on this, but IIRC: only YZ250/465H had the particular combination of 43mm tubes, angled lug and full diameter tubes between the triple clamps.
The YZ125L upper tubes are machined down (waisted) between the triples.
The later, linkage-rear YZs and ITs all have the horizontal lug.

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Here you go Woody.  You can even buy one at a time.  As cheap as getting them rechromed  8) 8)

Send him a message and he might review the postage cost.  I have dealt with him many times and had no problems.

YZ250J and 490J also apparently the same  :-\

Search yz 465 tubes on ebay.com
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

"My inability to use emoticins in the right context is really getting me down :)
The only triple jumps he would have been doing are the hop, skip & jump.

all good info, thanks guys. One of the inners has a decent deep long scratch in it right above the seal area. I don't want to spend a bomb on this bike so will try to get a used fork first.

cheers

I'd say that about half the Evo Yamahas run the horizontal brake lug forks/brake. Never heard of it being an issue, but Woody is a real Boy Scout... :)

It'll be an issue if you turn up to The Nats on your EVO bike with J or later YZ forks......  ;)

(Your original YZ h forks are probably sitting on some heavy four-stroke monstrosity in someones pool room being "oooed" and "aghhhed" at by people who haven't got a clue..... ::))

more likely they're in some guys shed.... in a pile with another 10 sets 'just in case' his gets damaged... even though he's probably using a straight lug J set... or converted to discs...  :-\
