don't use premium fuel in old bikes

Why?
Lower burn temp? Less chance for detonation?
Less power?

I run it, and have for a couple of years now. No issue in my bikes.
I pull the top end off my 495 the other week and was nice and clean/wet with the oil.
How long have you had the rod in the bike, and what use has it had?

Cheers Adrian

yeah the bike had been sitting for i guess ten years.when i got it i just cleaned out the carby and fuel tap and it started so i just rode it ,i had done about 5 hrs on it before i changed to the penrite castor syn oil.when i pulled the top off the motor when it stopped it wasnt dry it probably was just that the motor was tired.anyway got another bike over xmas to to take the motor out of that has a corroded clutch cover and was going to use the clutch cover of the one with the buggered big end but allthough they are both 85 ktm 250s 544 prefix engines the cover is different .they have different water pump drives.back to square one

If its been sitting for ten year I'd say the mains already had rust in it and it was only a matter of time before it scored itself to fail.  Often if you see an old motor when you turn the crank over you see pits in the crank wheel where its been siting in moisture in the bottom of the crank...... If cranks pitted or discoloured you just had a laid up failure that's all.
