Dinged Frame Tubes.
« on: November 25, 2012, 12:43:11 am »
What are my options for repairing the dings in the frame tubes running under the motor.

Like to find out what other forum members have done?

Fill the dings by brazing and them shaping by sanding, is that an option?

Mig a washer to the low spot, use an old spoke as a slide hammer, warm the frame around the dint with oxy then pull the dint out with a big shifter as the slide hammer, let it cool, break the spot welded washer off, grind up the leftovers with a flap disc.

There is a proper panel beating tool for this but yes weld something to the low spot and pull it with a slide hammer. You can heat shrink out shallow spots if you know how. Sharp creases are best mig filled.

Small dents can be filled with a Mig or Tig, I prefer to fill with steel rather than bronze as bronze being softer makes it harder to sand back evenly.
Also be careful sanding back that you don't take away too much original material making the tube thinner in the repaired area.

Really bad tubes should be replaced
