There goes my guess Ajay. I thought it would be you.
Just shows you can still be surprised in this day and age.

No, I was blissfully unaware of this bike (thank god) until after the auction finished. ;D

But I'm not in the market for one of those anyway... KX250s are my meat... ::)

Wow... $12000! That IS impressive.

You know, in 1991 when I first came to Canberra, I was into road bikes and not at all interested in old dirtbikes beyond a sort of 'wow, lookit that'. I remember that the local Suzuki dealer here had a section down the back for all the old dirtbikes he couldn't shift. There was a battered old 82 XR500, a few nondescript things I can't recall, a Montesa of some sort, and a reasonably tidy KX450. I remember checking it out cos I had never seen one before, all I could recall of them was a DirtBike test where one had shredded its rear wheel. I thought it looked great. I think they wanted a few hundred bucks for it. Hmmmm... if only I knew then etc.

Keep posting pics of that A5 Ajay, that is beautiful.

I can see prices increasing over the next few years for vintage motocrossers in a similar way astute collectors pay big bux for old muscle cars, look at GT falcons,HDT Commodores or even VL walkinshaws,70s and 80s stuff is cool.

I'll beleive $12,000 when the money is in the bank. ;)

There something suss there isn't there?; the bids going from 4,000 to 12,000 all with the same bidder?

Not withstanding, unless its someone with a special interest in the KX (maybe Kawa Aus, a museum???) there's no way an unrestored KX450  is worth $12,000 maybe around the $4000. I don't think this sale reflect the VMX market or the KX450 market.

A little birdy told me that the "sale" for $12,000 was just to prove a point (although I'm not sure what point it proves, actually) and that there is no chance that the money will change hands... ::)

Looks like the reserve was set at 12000, and the buyer kept bidding til he reached it.
