EBay narrows payment options

EBay narrows payment options
Wednesday Apr 9 23:18 AEST
New security changes to auction website eBay Australia will affect the way buyers purchase goods, and funnel more funds into its coffers.

Under the changes, direct deposits, money orders and personal cheques will no longer be listed as a payment option after June 17.

As a result, buyers will have only two options with which to pay: either cash-on-delivery, or via the online commerce website PayPal, which is owned by eBay.

PayPal accepts direct deposit or credit card payment on behalf of eBay sellers at a fee of between 1.1 and 2.4 per cent.

Like many of us I have an ebay account however, I prefer to pay for my purchases via direct deposit. I do have a Paypal account linked to my bank account  for nessessity  when DD is not an option. In linking to a bank account and not a credit card transactions take up to 6 days to clear.

ebay state they are implimenting this change to save problems. Like many others I believe that is not the sole reason nor the prime reason if ebay stand to profit by having the majority of transactions funnelled through thier paypal company.

This attempted monopoly i feel will drive many account holders away on search of other auction sites . if you feel like telling ebay how you feel about the proposals  give them some feedback at

I prefer to use paypal and get the shits with sellers if they dont offer it as its a pain in the arse to log into my BAnk and then set up the DD and hope i tyrpe in all the details.  YOU can alway pay COD if you needed to.

What it may do is MAKE overseas sellers USE it , to many refuse and want Money orders and crap.

I think its a good thing , but id like to see them be more accountable for Rip offs and scams when you have payed with pay pal on there site, this move i think legallly they will be more respoinsible, which would also make em pick up there game in that area.

As a seller the idea STINKS. I dont what to pay fees TWICE on everthing I sell. I dont want my bank account linked with paypal which is the only way you can get money out ( or spend it on ebay ). Ebay can jam up their fuggen arse. All those other small auction sites just doubled in volume.

Fuggen tell me  I MUST OFFER PAYPAL. Fu&% you ebay. Greedy bunch of female sex organs.

Some exclusion yes. But hey I sell stuff on ebay so I have cash for my bikes. Items not cover by their exclusions.
If your a buyer only it might be good and play into your hands, but for sellers NO WAY it sucks. If a seller sells item for $20 after you pay listing fees, Finial value fees and now paypal payment exception fees then paypal fees to transferr the money to your account you'd be lucky to get $2 out of it.
Fuggen sucks.
These new rules will drive sellers away. Buyer will suffer cos their will be fu&* all listed to buy.

I'm predicting even mnoe stuff will be pulled before the end of the auction and sold off ebay by whatever means the buyer and seller agree to. It will be a great place to advertise but the final sale will be off ebay. Watch ebay start to lose a lot on final value fees and paypal fees as the number of auctions ending early increases!!    ::)

meh....... im not sure but you just add 1.5% to your reserve $$$'s on the item when you list it, not hard is it ? if i want $10 for it i list it at 11.50 its not a rocket science.

I leave my seller paypal in there ;like its own little bank account, and use it to pay for other shit in the same currency, saves a lot of rooting about, as for being charged, i have pulled money out a few times and i was never charged.  i think you either pulled the money out in the wrong currency or somehow got under the threashold, if it was wrong you should have contacted them to sort it out.

This is a great oppertunity ,  for you guys like nathan who buy offline, but for all you other guys who spew cause  an Ahole in the US will only except money orders.

Paypal is no bloody help if a bike comes up local and money caught up in paypal account for fuggen week. The best buys are the ones that come up in your own backyard offered to as On The Spot cash deals.

Fair point Quicky, but the netbikes site is going to need much more exposure to others to be of any benefit, personally I find Paypal preferential when buying stuff from overseas, always get a bit of a nervous twitch when mailing off $US in cash. But just bump your reserve up by a tad and cover it . Who knows what the comparo is with listing it in Trading Posts etc ? Once again, good and bad to be seen from a change, but it will streamline things to a degree.
Nostalgia's not what it used to be....

apparently Ebay have a live setup this week in New Orleans - biggest item on the agenda is the "world wide" revolt over the Pay Pal only issue - be interesting to see the outcome?
