That Godden JAP is worth chasing Slides. Quite rare the early ones. I reckon one of the Poms might have brought it over
for  the early Test series. The main differance from the later model is the sub-frame. See if you can pick it.
What's your thoughts Foss?
   Regards  Mark
ps. It looks to be  the same year that GC won at Seymour.

In my opinion , GC's bike in that shot may be an early Elstar, bear in mind, though, there was a crossflow of ideas in the UK Grasstrack world. The tank and seat  on GC's bike is definately Elstar plus not all Elstars had a looped A frame, the wheels look wrong for an Elstar as do the fork gaiters, here's the shot of my Elstar/ 84S.

And guess what it's wearing on the back wheel, a bloody K70, must have been getting ready for a Temora meeting ::)

The bike in the photo with the Dodge is almost certainly an Elstar according to my mate who knows such stuff and I agree with him.

It's probably a bitsa but the tank is def Elstar thats the first thing I noticed, I wonder if it's before the Hagon that Mark ended up with or after. If it's after then that photo would be just after he returned from England in 73.
I'll forward the photo to Ray and see if he can shed some light.

That's a sweet Hagon JAP that Slider 29 picked up, but I hope 1: Mark paints the frame the correct blue and 2: paints the trailer anything but the Passion Pink it is now ;D.....
There's still a lot of bikes out there if you're prepared to go picking for them. An old mate from Condo rang me the other day about Maico stuff and the conversation got around to whether he still had his Elstar JAP dirt tracker and Jawa speedway bike. Not only did he tell me that he still had the bikes, he reckoned that there were another half dozen similar bikes still in the district "not doing much". I'll look a bit further into the situation after Easter, even though I'm not that interested in owning a slider, there may be something there for someone.

Back onto JAPs, Jonesy recently bought a sweet 4B JAP fitted with Alfin big fin barrel that'd been destined for a Cooper race car. The original owner had given it to another friend to rebuild but five years later the bloke had never come back to pick it up. While Alan didn't exactly get it cheap, he paid an honest price for an engine that'll now replace the totally locked up 4B in the Rotrax speedway basket case he's owned for 20 years.

I think you're dead right, Slider, the seat IS a Godden, it's a fair bit thinner than the Elstar and it looks like the rest of it , except the tank,  is Godden too, fork gaiters an' all, an' all
After evidence from an expert witness, I rests me case M'lud !!

So it's a Goddstar, or an Eldden?
I'm confused but that aint unusual.

M'lud, after consulting Victoria's foremost technical expert in this matter, fresh evidence has come to light, I beg leave to present it to youse.

This is from DG's 1972 cattledog and, I think , proves the point that GC's bike in that shot, IS a circa 1972 Godden Grasstracker with what appears to be an Elstar tank.
The reason the wheels looked wrong, to me , is that it has a disc rear brake and a full width front hub, as the cattledog states, REH hubs were an option that year.

The 1976 Godden catalouge shows the later distinctive Godden drooping rear A frame and REH hubs as standard.

Bloody hell Foss,
After our little chat last night you must not have been able to sleep!! 3.33 am ffs ;D
Firko, the trailer was painted blue as soon as the bike was taken off. I'm not kidding.
If I had left it nipple pink/purple nurple I would have had Alvin(Dave) sniffing around.
He would have loved it for his SC500. As for the color of the Hagon,...the white  looks pretty
good now that most things have been tidied up but it will be HAGON BLUE and white guards
I was going to take some pics to HBBB to show you how it's coming along. Next time.
   regards  Mark

She's looking pretty fine I reckon Mark, almost ready for Temora?
Looking at that photo just now I think painting the guards to Hagon Blue would really set it off, a reverse of the standard colour scheme, a lot easier than painting the frame.
