my old man had an old harley outfit i would sit on the seat at 4 yrs old and there was a little button on the tank i used to touch and this plunger  popped up which i pushed back down again of course. a little while later he would come out and start it with a gentle push from his size 12 boot then a big plume of blue smoke would envelope the scenery! he would yell which one of you kids has been mucking about with the oil boost pump? i'd stand there with a guilty look thinking how did he know anything was touched!.....the first bike i rode was an M20 army beeza which i still believe to be the easiest bike to learn on ever built. i was 14. my mum said "if either of you boys get a motor bike i'll cut it up with an axe" 1st bike i fell off was a  mates  c11 bsa in the back yard resulting in 1 stitch right hand. i came out of the nashos in '57 disposed of the old axe and bought a 52 ajs 18S with my deferred pay...i said to myself it will probably be about 2 weeks before i fall of this thing. the middle of the next week i went round a corner with gravel on the tar road and to my amazement found myself sliding down the road with two hands still hanging on to the bars but i was looking straight into the headlight with both me and  the bike loosing paint and skin!...... since then there has been quite a lot of machines most of which i fell off at some stage on the road or on the track. i have learnt not to even think about road racing as it would not suit my erratic style! and so at this stage of my life i will rarely ride on the road.   71 and still into turning the twist grip to the stop. cheers wally.
dont follow me i'm probably off line!

RV 90, Dad had to get me started because I could not reach the ground. When I was off and going dad would step off the back and leave me to cut laps around the yard. When I had had enough, just a beep on the horn and my side stand would appear!

First bike was a BSA bantam 175 set up for dirt track this was in 1967(I was 14, $30).First thing to do when I got it home was to cut that funny expansion chamber exhaust thing back to its first cone and create a megaphone exhaust, man did that thing make some noise,so it must have gone heaps better.yeah right.
