Ive had a couple of Montesa 125 and they are sadly under powered , whilst being very beautiful. I could never understand that ghastly color of later Montesa's thou

Slakewell the ghastly colour (mustard, dirty greenish yellowish) was one year only in 1979 on the VE series. The VF had a much better fuel tank shape and was a much more eye friendly yellow.

Have to agree on all accounts regarding the power. I had a VB series and the power band was weak and narrower than a bee's dick ::). Piston port, small transfer port area and only four transfers with a 36mm :o Bing carbie.

The crank had cronic big end problems because its design started as a 123cc trials bike ::) Lyall O'Brien fitted a Yamaha rod kit from what I have been told otherwise they have a very short life.

They do look great though and handle like a dream ;D

Exactly I was offered a 125 H6 Enduro with a reed valve installed recently but I remembered the VB125 from 34yrs ago and ran away as fast as I could so I wouldn't be tempted.
