Slakewell the ghastly colour (mustard, dirty greenish yellowish) was one year only in 1979 on the VE series. The VF had a much better fuel tank shape and was a much more eye friendly yellow.
Have to agree on all accounts regarding the power. I had a VB series and the power band was weak and narrower than a bee's dick
. Piston port, small transfer port area and only four transfers with a 36mm
Bing carbie.
The crank had cronic big end problems because its design started as a 123cc trials bike
Lyall O'Brien fitted a Yamaha rod kit from what I have been told otherwise they have a very short life.
They do look great though and handle like a dream
