Standard gearing for a TM 250 please
« on: May 08, 2012, 02:11:41 pm »
Can anyone tell me what the standard gearing should be or where I can find it?

John's old TM250 is geared for flat track and will do about a 100 in first  :o .  I need to gear it down for MX  :)

Thanks
Craig

I concur with oldfart - I have been running 14 - 46/47 for ages and is too tall. Hardly ever used top and was a bit too slow on the pick up. I have a 50 sitting in the shed to go on based on oldfarts recomendations at CD8

13 - 50 short /tight tracks and   14 -50 on longer more flowing suits me .... but you might want to try  14-50  and 15 -50

Thanks for advice Oldfart but I've now run into another problem.  My local bike shop can't supply a 50T rear sprocket, nor a 13T front??  They have access to most suppliers and even took a stencil of my current 41T to send to their suppliers however the best they can do is a 42T rear and 15T front.

Any advice as to whom I can source both a 50T rear and 13T front?

I take it you are now running  520 pitch chain   ???? as you have a larger selection to choose from               ( 525 pitch is STd on the old girls )

I had my rear made by "John Titmans" not fuggin cheap..... now have something to copy from and will be buying blanks and making my own.

I think it's 520 pitch but will check to confirm.  So Titman's is my only local option?

Gees if I could ge a 12T front I would be right with a 42T rear .. found an 11T for an RL but that's likely to be 525 pitch I guess?

I can't believe I just can't buy a sprocket ready to go.

The Suzuki parts list has the standard gearing at 15/40T. Like you said, way, way, way off what you need.
I'm running 13/42 ( 520 chain )( you get to use all the gears ).
you can get sprockets from any bike shop that sells JT Sprockets.

13T front sprocket is JFT 431-13
fits:...RM250 A/B/C/C2 - RM370 A/B - RM400 C - PE250 B/C/N/T/X
other available sizes 11,12,13,14,15

42T back sprocket is JTR 820
fits:...DR250 1982-87 - SP370 - SP400
I can't remember the exact prices but they were cheap.

Thanks everyone.  I have a new 12 and 13T front sprockets on their way from JT as I already have a rear 41.  I figure the 12/41 should be just under the 14/50 so that should be close enough for a start.  I already have a 14T front so will chase a 42/43/44 rear if I need to go up a little bit.

Hopefully get the old girl down to Nudgee for the BMCC practice day this comning Saturday  ;D

Cheers
