2012 Classic Dirt Track Championships - Canberra October 6/7

OK i may be talking out of kilter here, and i dont want to distract from what was a great track and praise for a club actually wanting to host a national title......but i personally dont think the club could have handled pre 85's as well.

There was a few issues i personally saw around conducting just the pre 78 classes, too many missed racers, communicaition breakdowns and general logistics that would need to be addressed to successfully handle more bikes, campers and races.

i think there is a lot that can be taken away from these events every year, both good and bad to create a check list for other clubs to use and build on so we can create an on track and off track fomulae that works for everyone. 

Im just not sure we are where we should be yet

The biggest issue next year will effect both.  the proposed calender for 2013 has the  MX one weeeknd and then the Dirt track the weekend after ? its going to be inpossible for riders to drive home swap bikes and drive all the way back..... or hang around for a week waiting.

I think this is a BADDDDD call on the dates if that is correct.  and should be fixed other wise you will get a lot or riders who cant do both, so numbers will be down for sure.    JMO

I'd be keen to find more details of the 2013 DT event and the 2013 VMX nats as contrary to everyone else these two events a week apart will suit me down to the ground.

Are both events in the same area?

I've never ridden Dirt track but I'll happily chuck another tire in the crate and change it during the week.

Love the photo, #21 was super quick on the Triumph Flattracker.
Bloody disgraceful that the complete results still aren't available on the MA website, is that the club's responsibility?

The motocross is at Fairburn Pk Canberra and I believe the dirt tracks at Broadford, Victoria. It's ideal for you coming down from Darwin Brent but it's a bit of a nuisance having them so close together for many others. Nothing's official yet though...or is it?

Thanks Mark, For some reason I thought next years DT event was in Canberra. Maybe I should read things a bit better eh

When the split was proposed it was recognised that Dirt Track probably wouldnt have the numbers to warrant the "split", so the option for a club to apply for a combined event was left open. When I proposed to MA that it would be fair to all concerned to reduce the fee it was envisaged the the the Classic promoter would pay $2000, Post Classic $2000, giving MA $4000 total.This was a win-win as the two clubs saved $1000 each and MA got an extra $1000.If a club was granted a combined all eras in one event as was to be expected for Dirt Track, it was assumed MA would treat and charge as one event. It was never expected there would be a "double dip"
However the final decision to run Classics only was the club's, primarily on the basis of insufficient time to include all classes in the two days. A three day event was not an option due to local noise restrictions.To blame MA , the organising club, or the "split" for any perceived short-coming in this event is misguided. Instead blame the increased popularity of our sport and introduction of later era classes .
I think the MA fee situation needs to be clarified, but I for one welcome the momentum our sport has developed. Look at the big picture..

Try ACT for the MX and the NSW club thats not grittith for the other ( not sure if its been offically released so refer to club on that mail)

Talk about noses in the pig trough, MA should hang thier head in shame ......
 it's their fee structure that needs looking at closely.
